Go with XP and buy more RAM. You won't regret it. As for your second question, it's my understanding most mobos with a RAID chip does not support regular IDE operation on those ports. Mine (SOYO dragon+) was one of few that supported it when I bought it and it has a jumper to make it go from raid mode to IDE mode. You should check your manual for something like that.

I TOTALLY agree with that one... If you had more Ram you COULD have WP running nicely... but since you don't I would say either 98 2nd Edition OR 2000.

I have windows 2000... and I love it !! Well... I was always a Windows NT fan anyway...

Definately XP, its much more stable. It will run perfectly on 128mb of RAM, you really dont need to upgrade unless a specific application your using requires it.

You mean I am not the only one that used to run NT 3.5 at home instead of standard consumer windows ? laugh

i second that.....although...you need 256mb of windows 2000 to keep it responsive. to put it terms you can uderstand, 128mb or ram is like the Zetec, and 256 is like the Duratec. And a heavy car like the contour is your system, The pedal is your OS....which is going to go faster when you accelerate (do stuff) and move quicker? (stock that is wink ) i'm sorry for my stupid useless analogies.
Just Get windows 2000 if you want XP stability and security, without the compatablility problems, and you don't mind giving up the "fisher price" theme and slightly tweeked "security" (bah!) (along with some minor features that can be added to windows 2000 through 3rd party software). Windows 2000 is a kick ass os (thats what i run)...just make sure to get the service pack and updates imediately!

if you have no concern for multimedia or gaming nt 4.0 isn't a bad choice. Although it's terrible for games and multimedia in general.

I haven't made the move to XP yet, I'm still running 2000 pro, I can usually get 2 weeks out of uptime so that is good enough for me. With NT4 I had about 6 weeks without a restart, using the computer everyday.

Do you own this software or are you going to buy it? :p

Why the heck would someone go to 2000 instead of XP? Same hardware requirements and 2000 does not have near the hardware support. Win2000 as a desktop OS is going bye-bye in a year or two anyways. NT4 and NT 3.5 are great for network servers but as a "lets have fun and games" OS you're stuck back 2 years. Most newer games do not support NT and less and less hardware manufacturers are writing drivers for NT.
