Besides the addition of a Mystique rear dome light has anyone added a courtesy light for the rear seat?
The footwells are particularly dark in the stock car since light from the front dome is blocked by the front seats and there are no door puddle lights.
I am reluctant to butcher headliner to add a dome light in the rear, like my '98 Mystique. I'm thinking something at the rear of the console might be easy to add.
Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of putting lights in the rear pillars ala Lincon Mark IIIV. Figure I can pull those from a bone yard for cheap $.

That's an idea, although I'm not familiar with the Lincoln lights you mention. A lot of those luxury cars have map/reading lights in that location. I checked my car quickly in driveway (its been raining most of the day) and see that you would have to stay away from the shoulder belt retractor, also the trim seems to be all curves. I'll pop the trim off in better weather and see how much space there is behind it.
Thanks for the reply.

Just make sure you use a sharp exacto knife so you don't have any jagged edges. The mount/hole already exists in the roof of the car so its hard to go wrong with where it mounts...sort of like a template I guess. I've also added the display for my processor(stereo) to the front of my headliner just above the front light...Email me and I'll send you a pic. As for putting lights in the C pillars that would be a much bigger job than adding the Mystique dome light. And it might not look quite as stock. My $.02 sqplus@my99svt.net

I agree, cutting the headliner is really easy. If you use the roof as a guide, it's impossible to mess up. And even if your cuts are a little jagged, the dome light bezel is very wide and covers it up. Probably the most stock-looking solution for rear illumination possible (since it is basically stock on the Mystique)

SQPlus & louisw: I just get in my Mystique to see benefits of rear dome light. Did either of you do the mod to a Contour with a moonroof?

I also agree with the rear dome light being an easy mod. The hardest part was running the wiring from the back to the front. I just wish I could get more power (illumination) out of the lamp. Is there another bulb I could replace the stock one with to get more light without melting the plastic?

SQPlus, is there any way you can make those pics accessible (needs login). I'd love to see the rear dome light mod completed.
