The Sony PCGFXA53? Good laptop (I sell them)...

It has S-video and NTSC outputs. Only thing I wish is that it had more video memory for gaming. Other than that it's a great laptop and fairly new on the market! So did ya end up gettin the extended warranty on it? Prob. something like $334 for 4 years or $269 for 2 years?

I take it you work at CC. wink

My particular PCG-FXA53 doesn't have S-video. confused At least it has the IEEE1394 (iLink) port for my parents' digital camera! Movie time!

I've got another 13 days to decide on an extended warranty or not. I'll probably get the 2-year.

I don't play games, so the memory situation is fine. I only wish it was upgradeable to 1 gig not 512 MB!

My only problem now is I have to upgrade to WinXP Pro for my college (the network doesn't support XP Home). But Pro is available free for me, so I'm all set!

Thanks everybody - I'm so excited!!

If you don't even game, what could you possibly need 1 Gigabyte of RAM for? Aside from major 3d rendering or video editing (professional film editing) I cna't imagine...and if you were into that a laptop would be a bad choice anyway.

This isn't directed at anyone here, but I think this "bigger is better" thing when it comes to RAM is gettign out of hand! Yes, more memory helps....but lets be real. 128MB is suitable, 256 is great....512 is overkill and 1 gigabyte is simply ridiculous!

Cant go wrong there. And Toshiba models usually perform better than HP, Dell, and Compaq in my opioion.

I have purchased, used and broken about 65 laptops thus far in my career as an engineer. I would buy new ones and shuffle the old ones throughout the labs.

Compaq (and DEC, both before and after being bought by Compaq) = Sucky. HP = worse still. Toshiba = fair, just pray nothing goes wrong because their support is terrible. IBM = fair. Mac = fair (they're pretty, but slow and service and support are abismal).

Dell is by far the best. Most options, best support, best website and best price (especially when you factor in what you get which is quality). Spend the extra $100 (depends on model) for the 3 year onsite service. You break it, they come to you and fix it. I once inadvertently flung my laptop out of a convertible (didn't realize the bag was unzipped). Catapulted that sucker across the parking lot - SMASH. I called. They came. They fixed.

Matthew-

Yes I work at Circuit City, right now I'm doing computer/digital cameras/broadband/wireless sales but I'm in training for Sales Management. So by October or so I should be a Sales Manager.

If you have any questions on the ext. warranty or how it works/what it covers...shoot me a PM.
