A few quotes:
The rally was centered on seeking divine guidance for judges. David Barton, the state party's vice chairman, documented the increase in violent crime, sexually transmitted diseases and teen pregnancies in the 40 years since the U.S. Supreme Court banned prayer in public school.

"Providence punishes national sins with national calamities," said Barton.

He also noted that, "We believed 200 years ago in America that you should never hold a law degree until you first held a seminary degree, because how can you handle the laws of men if you first don't know the laws of God?"

GOP delegates approved a party platform that included withdrawal from the United Nations and a total ban on abortions.

Reminds me why I left the GOP. And Texas.

Yeah, T-Red, that would be awful if we couldn't kill babies. Plus, the United Nations is a a collection of countries all jealous of our power who try to use their collective power to diminish ours. We need to withdraw from the UN.

* Sarcasm ON *

I like the idea of having to have a seminary degree to be a lawyer/judge.
I'm not catholic, and like the law says, judged by you peers, so I could just go around breaking laws and there's nothing the catholic law system could do about it.

* Sarcasm OFF *

Gee, has anyone in the Texas GOP party heard of the Constitution. It has this little technicality about seperation of church and states.
Prayer (of every religion) should be allowed in school, just not on school time.
The scholastic year is already to short and doesn't do a very good job.
Lets educate kids first, then worry about religion.

This is the 1st Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I'd say that if you ban prayer from public schools, or anywhere for that matter, that is in violation of the First Amendment, not in recognition of it ("or prohibiting the free exercise thereof). The "separation of church and state" has been incredibly misinterpreted.

Public schools are part of the government. This is why restrictions on the government also affect the schools. You can try and get away with giving the children x number of minutes for 'do whatever you want to do' time, but you absolutely can't make it religion specific.

Besides, I thought we were allready spending too much money on schools. Does making student idle somehow save money?

There's nothing IN the constitution about the separation of church and state.

Have you been paying attention to how ****ty things are in public schools?

Some of the stuff taught at school is pure garbage. Some teachers give far too much leeway in grading because a bad grade (which btw was earned through sloppy work or inattention) might "hurt" the self esteem of students. Students who achieve are sometimes not recognized because students who don't achieve as much might be "offended". I hear some schools are doing away with honoring the valecdictorian(sp?), etc for that very reason. Revisionists keep changing history to reflect whatever minority group is most present, for example, I hear in Texas they want to rewrite what happened at the Alamo and the succession of Texas from Mexico because it so many Texans have Mexican ancestry and might be offended by the fact that they "lost". :rolleyes:

Kids bring guns, drugs, liquor, you name it to school. I don't see how allowing prayer would make it any worse than it already is.

I could also say that that started happening after MacArthy started burning books about communism.
Or after they added 'under god' to the Pledge of Allegiance, or after they added 'in god we trust' to every piece of currency.
