The computer guru's never cese to amaze me so here goes.

I've got a HP Vectra VL400, PIII, 256MB Ram.
I have Verizon DSL and it's pretty good however I find when I'm surfing the web, everything seems to stop dead every now and then.

It isn't dependent on what site, time of day, anything I can think of. I'll move through a few sites or a few pages within a thread and then I'll click on something else and .... nothing. I'll wait a moment or two and then off it goes again straight to the site/page I clicked on. It isn't that the site is slow to load, I would see that in the status bar.

This has been happening for a while. I tried using 2 different 56k modems with 2 different ISP's and now with Verizon DSL, it's still happening.

A work buddy has exactly the same computer as mine and has the same problem. Weird thing is with his though is that he is sahring his internet access (Verizon DSL I think) with his wife's pc via a router. Her computer has never had this issue. His behaves exactly like mine.

Idea's would be welcome ..... Thanks.

Adaware gets run every day a couple of times, I'm running IE6 and defragment runs once per week thru a scheduler.

I've got around ~20gigs free out of 30.

Thanks though, any reply is appreciated. smile

Check out DSLreports.com and go to the TWEAKS section...run a tweak test and then follow the instructions for downloading/using Dr.Tcp...one major problem is that you have to set some values in the windows registry to allow more info to flow at any time...called MTU...
I had the same problems..
the tweak test should give you a fairly decent indication of what you need to do as well as how to fix it. Might also be your location/distance from Telco office, the line in your home, etc...
