Last weekend, I bought a CD burner for my home PC and installed it on Monday. After re-booting, I lost the mouse pointer. Everything else seems to work OK. Any ideas?

First, do you have a USB mouse? PS/2? Or Serial?
Second, have you tried removing the CDR/RW to see if the problem resolves?
Third, step us through the process you followed to install the CDR/RW.

- PS/2 - I disconected the new CD burner and re-connected the old CD-ROM - I think I followed the steps given in the manual. There really wasn't much to it.

How is your PS/2 port attached to the motherboard? If it's kinda like a little card thing with a ribbon cable going to the motherboard, you could have accidentally disconnected that as you were moving things around.

I don't think I accidentally disconnected anything. I will have to check when I get back home...in a week or two! (I am out-of-town now).

IRQ Conflict? The mouses IRQ was grabbed by the burner, potentially...
If it is a PS2 controller card, then it SHOULD have its own dedicated IRQ. Check the mouse's IRQ setup within windows (I know... use the keyboard... ugh...) and see what it is... It should be IRQ:12
Also... you could make sure that the device setup for the burner doesn't have the same IRQ selected.
If you have rebooted since the CDR was removed, you might think that the controller card for the mouse went KAPUT... try re-seating the controller card.
Anyway. 1. Check your device mangager for your mouse's IRQ, should be 12.. 2. Check your device manager for the Burnders IRQ.. should be NOT 12. 3. Re-seat the controller card for the mouse, within the computer. 4. As a last-ditch effort, make sure that your mouse isn't disabled within your BIOS setup, when you boot up... I don't know how that would have happened, but you never know, with these 1's and 0's...

Before I left town, I could not navigate fully into the various menus since I did not have the mouse pointer. I really could not get into the sub-menus; I tried tabbing, shift tab, etc. Its a Windows 95 op system.
