Hey all. I have a friend who is a Mets fan, and he believes that Piazza is the savior of his team in the NL East, especially after last night. I don't agree at all, and consider him average, and very overrated. The only reason he gets all the attention is because he's a good looking catcher with a little personatlity, and a rough streak. I also think that there are many catchers overall who don't deserve all the credit they get. So let me know, What do y'all think? P.S. I happen to think Jason Varitek is a little Underrated.

No, I don't think Piazza is good looking, but my girl says he looks better than any of the others. I do know that Posada looks like a rat, so he doesn't do too many ad's. I haven't yet figured out the advertising potential of fat Don Zimmer yet though!

Piazza is a great bat with a decent glove....not so decent arm and accuracy. Varitek is getting a lot better defensively in the past two years. The bat is good too. Noone beats Ivan Rodriques (sp?) from Texas. Hands down best catcher in baseball....even though he is injured right now.... EDIT: Noone calls a better game than Varitek right now at this point of the season.

Piazza is just having as bad year. Saw him "try" to throw out a runner the other night. I think he is like 4 for 28 on attempted throw outs at second.
And Dave, I agree.....

I Rod is the sheet. He might very well be the best catcher EVER, and I do not say this lightly. Piazza is a great hitter and an average defensive player. Javy Lopez is decent hitter and above average defense. Charles Johnson (when he's healthy) is good with the bat and the glove. I played against Varitek at UGA and he's definitely getting better in MLB.

Piazza is probably the best offensive catcher in history but is average at best behind the plate.
Pudge is the best all around.
Posada/varitek are both good all around, but not the best in anything.

Piazza has been hit in the head so many times, I'm amazed he can still walk. I think in turn his arm has gotten worse!!
