The story: I currently have AT&T, and I love their coverage, but I am sick of my current phone (Nokia 51XX), and they don't offer any phones I like that don't cost a fortune. In comes Competitor: Verizon. They are offering the Kyocera SmartPhone here (cell phone and Palm Pilot in one) for $100. I am on a trial with Verizon, and found the coverage is somew3hat more spotty, but could be acceptable. I love the phone, but have heard it may be troublesome. Should I stay with AT&T and hope a better phone comes out, or make the switch to Verizon (the SmartPhone is on a limited time $150 rebate)? Please post why, and if you know anything about the SmartPhone's reliability, I'd love to know.

Every area is different. You should ask around in your area what people have. Mushu may have hated Sprint and now has Cingular, but around LA Sprint seems to be a better service, and Cingular is a mess.

James,
I know you didn't like Sprint up there. (I think you said that at Denny's at SZ2002.) But I've nothing but good service from them.
They handled the problems reasonable well, and that is one of the most important attributes of service.

I just meant Sprint charged way too much for what we got. We have basically the same thing with Cingular however our bill is $30 less.

FWIW, I have two phones, each with its own number, sharing a pool of 600 anywhere anytime minutes, for $72/month, all taxes included. Sure, there are a lot of plans with X-Thousand night and weekend local minutes, but I have yet to find a way to get 600 minutes I can use anywhere, anytime, with free long distance on two phones for the above deal. Plus, no contract, so I can cancel anytime or keep going forever. I've been on this plan for 4 years now TB

The reason I can only choose between Verizon and AT&T is that they are the only two providers that cover analog roaming, a necessity for my frequent trips to Northern Wisconsin. I actually had a VoiceStream and a Sprint rep tell me that.
Coverage is my first necessity, a good phone is second, as I use mine a lot.

svtcarboy, AT&T has some great deals coming out from time to time. My wife and I got two Nokia 8260's for $25 each (after rebates) two xmas ago. They are seriously kick a## phones. I would call customer services and tell them that you want to stay with at&t but that you are not happy with the phones adn prices, they may give you a deal on a cool phone. As for the palm pilot phones, I like the idea of having everything in one phoen but worry about the durability. My phone gets much harder use then my handspring. I'd go with the two seperate items.

If you like their coverage just get a new phone. I don't know about your area but verizon coverage isn't that good over here. If coverage is your top priority AT&T would be pretty hard to beat I think.
