A friend and I figured out the doubling your bet theory for blackjack and went to a casino the other day to try it out. We had tried it out at home by dealing out 1000 hands and saw that you lose 6 times in a row once in 500 hands. We won some good money, I won 155 and he won 350. Is doubling your bet illegal? I have heard it is but they never said one word at the casino and we both played at the same table. Just wondering what others thoughts are on doubling your bet.

You can bet whatever you want between the table minimum and table maximum on any hand. Some casinos get concerned if you suddenly start changing your standard bet by a large amount - you'll get pit bosses and eyes in the sky watching hard for card counting or cheating, but as long as you aren't doing either of those things, you will be fine. However, each casino can enforce rules as they see fit, so some might get uptight and ask you to leave. Nothing illegal about it though. Much less likely to get tossed in a place with multiple casinos (AC, Vegas) because they know you can just take your money next door.

are you talking about betting 5, lose, then bet 10, lose, then bet 20, win then start at 5 again?

100% legal. I work at a Casino. FWIW, the longer you stay the less money you'll have. We WILL take it eventualy

The theory of doubling your bet goes like this. You start by betting small say $5. If you lose you bet $10. If you lose that you bet $20. Let's say you win that 20 dollar hand, now you've lost 35 dollars but when you won that 20 dollar hand you have 40 bucks, so you made 5 dollars. You just keep doing that. There is a 1 in 500 chance of losing 6 straight hands. If you lost 6 straight hands you can either bite the bullet and take your losses or go to high stakes and bid 320 or start over betting 5 bucks a hand.

I don't know about the longer you stay the less money you have. My friend made 355 dollars in one day doing this theory. Another guy that went to my school has made 2000 in 5 days doing this. I really think this works. If you want to get really crazy you can try this theory at roulette, doing the double your bet thing on black and red simultaneously.

I supplement my income by playing blackjack.
As I only live 30 minute from Spirit Mtn Casino.
The "bet double" theory does not really work.
It is very possible, and probable, to lose more than 5 hands in a row.
The chance of losing ten hands in a row is 20.8%.
The chance of winning ten hands in a row is 11.2%.
The chance of losing 5 hands in a row is 32.5%.
The chance of winning 5 hands in a row is 15.4%.
This chance of losing two hands in a row 67%.
The chance of winning two hands in a row 33%.
The most common outcome of 5 hands is win 2 lose 3.
It happens 87% of the time.
This is why if you play blackjack long enough, you will lose your money.
On average I can make ~500 bucks in a day.
That takes about $100 to start and 6 hours of play.
(I play the $5 tables).
You don't have to count cards to play affectively, just know the percentages for 10's (including face cards), Aces, and combinations that make 10 & 11.
It has taken me about a year to get good.
But I still lose frequntly in tournaments.
