I think I know what it is (emissions stuff of course) but my car is making this horribly annoying "mmmooooooooooovvvvvvvvvmmmmmm" noise when I start it up on cold mornings for a few seconds. My mechanic buddy said it had something to do with an intake air sensor needing lubrication, but I'm not sure.

Any clues? Thanks!

This is called moosing around here and there are plenty of threads started about this. The easiest way to find what your looking for is to do a SEARCH and you'll be set. There's just to many links for me to post right now.

Hope this helps. wink

Very common. "Moosing." It isn't emission related, but a valve (Intake Air Control, IAC) that opens when the throttle body is shut. It gets dirty over time. There are 3 things you can try: 1) clean the IAC, 2) replace the IAC (this eventually worked for me after 1 failed), or 3) Throttle Hang Fix .

That's a moose not a cow :p , get to know the moose, as he will visit you often in cold weather. I'm hoping to clean out my iac this weekend if the weather is ok.

The only thing I had to do was the TH fix. I had my IAC replaced under warranty because of idle fluctuation, and it didn't help. The TH fix is by far the cheapest way to start(18 cents and 10 minutes of your time). Read the FAQ, and it will describe exactly how to do it. If it was easy enough for me to do, it sould be a breeze for you. Good luck! wink

Set me back $150 at the dealer. Probably should've done the TH fix instead.
