Do you guys think that there is enough of a market in this area to open a shop that does installs and custom bodywork and paint in this area? We were thinking about Holland or somewhere NE Grand Rapids? Dealing with Civics and other imports and quick domestics, but working closely with people with my first love the Contour. I know there is "The Spot Motorsports" or whatever but we're talking about quality work here from people that know their trades. My body/paint guy that i've been talking to about this has been doing it for about 7 years and is damn good. Just some examples of services would be like:
Body color matched interior paint for like $100. Actual automotive paint with base and clear not just spray can.
Parts: any parts you need could be purchased and most of them installed.
Exhaust work: removing resonators, installing mufflers.
It would more or less be a couple of guys doing what they love out of a rented garage somewhere. But still remaining professional and offering quality service. This would also be reflected in the prices we would offer. We would prob. beat any price around town on most services. I'm new to this whole thing so i'm just kinda tossing around some ideas. Please let me know what you guys are thinking. Ask your friends and people at the Lot too. I appreciate your feedback and hope to make this work out for all of us.

Ask the guys who own er owned Auto Sports Unlimited. They just closed up shop. I think they are still selling high end imports but the aftermarket parts biz is in the crapper. I'd stick with body work if you were going to do it. Anyone can get parts online for cheap now.

Thanks everyone for their replys. I think you're right about the parts. The only thing i was thinking about that was actually having the parts in stock. But came to the realization, that would take way too much money and would be hard to get organized. Would their be enough market for custom paint and bodywork though? The only place around here that does that i think would be Erotik Customs. I mean we could do shaving and that kind of stuff, but I don't think too many people want that. Ohh well. Thanks again for your feedback. If you have any more ideas or other services which would be of use to you guys let me know. I'll keep thining about this too and keep you updated with the progress. Thanks.

This has been a topic of discussion in our area for some time. Being friends with the Redekers, doing stuff to cars is always the main topic. Thing is, there's alot of ricers around that have unpainted bodykits and beat cars with huge wings. The guys that want the service dont have the money. The old school guys already have a dependable source for their hotrods. You will probably start in your garage for 5 years and get a good name built and a client base. Just check out the shops in detroit. They're all small shops that have been there forever. just my .02
