Going to remove the door ding gaurds for that clean look, but i am wondering about the discoloration from time or the sun.. Will the color of the door under the gaurds be different?
The car was purchased brand new 3 years ago.

It's really a roll of the dice. One of my doors had been "touched up" by either the dealership or the factory, so mine did not match. Since the car was new with 3500mi, they repainted it under warranty. If you search on door dings you will probably find most have had no problems.

I recently removed them off of my Black SVT. There was no colour difference - just some faint speckles, characteristic of the shoddy paint job my car got at the factory.

You'll find that a hairdryer makes removing the guards and the glue much easier. Spot heat the door and alternate fingers to get the adhesive off with minimal blistering to your hand.

Good luck

I did it about a year ago and had two doors where the clearcoat was not underneath the doording guards. frown Oh well. I guess I will have to get it repainted on of these days.

I have a tip on getting the glue/sticky stuff off.

First it helped me to have a bucket of water/soap nearby and kept wetting it as I went along.

Something else, once you get a hold of one edge of the stickiness. Say your going to start at the left and work towards the right. Instead of pulling towards the right pull the opposite direction lightly. I didn't figure this out until I got to the second side and it worked so much better because the tape/stickiness didn't break off.

It also save my fingernails and fingers from being sore.

Hope that helps and if I can clearify let me know.

I did this mod last weekend. My best advice is:
1) Get a friend to help...total cost: 1 6 pack
2) Use the sun to your advantage...the glue is harder to peel in the shade.
3) Have a cold beer ready when you are done...the cold will help numb your tattered fingertips...mine are still killing me.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out! laugh laugh laugh
