I just poured over old post about timing belts and was looking for any other information that I would need when i go to do this with my father this weekend.
We got a new belt, the tensioner, the two idler assemblies, and the spring.
In the morning I am getting a sound like a bad bearing that is why we are replacing all of the pulleys.
Is there anything else we need to worry about or know about?

Yes, definitely. There's only supposed to be one ?m? in your timing belt. If you install a timming belt with two ?m?s, then it will cause problems. If there's an extra ?m?, please remove it before you install the belt. There's only really room for one ?m?, and that extra ?m? will cause trouble. See this thread for more information.

Before I got rid of my previous car, a 1994 Tempo, I swapped radios. I liked the Tempo's radio better. That counts as a mod, doesn't it? I also kept one of my Tempo's wheels to use as a spare. I hate those stupid ?compact? spares that come with modern cars. Does this count as a mod? If so, I guess I have two mods. Replaced burned/melted blower switch and connector on 19 February 2002 with a 1P3T toggle switch from Marvac and a Molex connector from Rat Shack; I guess this now makes three mods.)

Since water pumps are a known trouble spot on Contours -- mainly on duratecs, but zetecs are not exempt -- I would get a new one and stick it in while the timing belt is off. My mechanic friend tells me this is a good policy with cars in general.
When we did mine, we bought the tensioner, but returned it because the old one was fine; it was the little idler that was bad.

The idlers on the serpentine belt and the timing belt seem to go bad quicker than the rest of the pulleys Cheaply made

Some at Ford have said the timing belt lasts "the life of the car". ???
2000 SE fleet, V6, ATX, ABS, no spoiler, T-Green/tan. Built 01/2000 in MO. Added 12 spoke factory SE rims, K&N. Biggest mod: ESP Plan!

??? That must be for the Duratec which uses timing chain AFAIK. I've seen posts on this forum about broken Zetec timing belts... It is not that common though, the common understanding was that the belt usually lasts way longer than the Ford recommended (60k or 80k) replace interval. I've changed mines at 75k and still looked like new, and I've heard about people putting 100-120k miles on their original belt. Tiv

Well.....at 110k miles whistling sound from timing belt area indicated a problem. Soon after that loud rattle, lost power. Opened coved - loose belt. Tensioner pulley bearing shot. Idler pulley bearing also binding. Belt looked O.K. Changed all pulleys, belt and YES water pump. That ought to last me another 100k miles.
