Has anyone tried/attempted to run a remote air hose from the intake down to the front bumper opening on a Zetec? I recently removed that large resonator in my fenderwell and left the black plastic air inlet tube on so I would get better direction from the air coming in from the turn signal light area. If I were to go to Home Depot and buy some heating/cooling ventilation tubing and run that from the stock inlet tube to the lower bumper opening, would this give me more cold air or just make the stock setup more restrictive? Thanks for your help!

Something like the BAT air tube:

That's what I want to do until I can get a CAI. It shouldn't be more restrictive. I have yet to remove the fender well resonator because I'm still confused. Since I have stock air box.. will i have to add something to keep all the air flowing into the box?

You mean like an addition to further cool the airbox or like a replacement for the factory intake?

Got me thinking for a topic in Performance...thanks.

I was originally planning to do something like this. I dropped the idea when I tried to calculate how fast I'd have to go to get any noticeable ram pressure boost from pointing the tube into the wind... and I concluded that it would just start to make a difference as one approaches 100 MPH. So I decided it wouldn't be worth the increased risk of debris and rainwater getting into the intake.

mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

I removed my front left tire and fenderwell to get a nice look at the enormous plastic resonator. On my 97 there was one torx bolt (T30?) holding up the large resonator close to the driver's door hinge. Then it just came out. As far as the other part goes, I left it there so the intake box could get more direct airflow. There was a small resonator hanging down from the inlet tube and I left that there as well. Also, I filled the small hole (really a triangle shape) left by the removal of the large resonator with a piece of high density foam that I cut slightly larger than the opening to make for a tight fit. I guess you could also use duct tape!

The main question I have is whether it would be worth my time to add a ventilation hose from the stock inlet tube down to the opening in the front bumper. Here's what Home Depot has that might work with a little tinkering:

Here's something I thought would be good to get more air directed into the hose:

I just installed my CTA intake and was thinking about running some hose as has been talked about i think it would give the filter colder air. Will this inprove preformance at all.

These are all things I will probably be doing! I am not too sure that using the dryer exhaust tubing from Home Depot is necessarily the way to go. I am thinking of either taking and adapting the huge resonator to work on the opposite side of the fender well or....running piping. You want to try to make the airflow coming in encounter as few restrictions, obstacles as possible. So exhaust tubing from Auto Zone and a couple of mandrel bend 45 and 90 degree elbows, coupled with some rubber piping joint material that you can get from your fav hardware store, would be kool.

Why do you wanna do this some ask?!?!!?!!
Because cooler air works better. Ram air...ehhh....the cooler the air the better. Just remember to locate your tube someplace away from splashing rainwater...unless you plan on going with a AEM bypass filter.

Have fun

While purusing the aisles of Home Depot today, I came across something that I think will work as a remote air hose. It's a vacuum hose from a Ridgid Shop Vac. Here's a picture of it:

What do you guys think? Will this work? The inside of the hose was smooth so it shouldn't constrict airflow. The diameter is 2.5" if that matters.

Ram air is good but you will have to clean your air filter twice as much. A lot of road junk does go up into those remote air tubes. To me it isn't worth it for maybe 1 to 2 Hp at 100 mph.
