i was thinking about getting a new engine for my 96' Gl and was wondering if I should get it rebuilt or if i should go out and buy a whole new Zetec? if new one would the new Zetecs fit inside and match up or would i have to find one with low miles from a junk yard or something. Plus, my third gear keeps grinding, are my synchros out, or do you think that the fork might be bent?
thanksfor any and all advice,
johnny

If you go with a crated rebuilt engine I'd be real careful about the reputation of the rebuilder. Some engine rebuilders do really crappy cheap work.
96 GL Zetec ATX, white with pinstripe, nickname " Sam Smooth " mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

I just had my zetec rebuilt due to a craked piston (and bad fuel injectors ). It runs better than when I first got the car two years ago. I have been told that sometimes engines don't run the same after they have been rebuilt though. My mechanic had a hell of a time getting the parts from ford (they kept sending the wrong parts). If you decide to get it rebuilt, make sure it's done by a good mechanic.

My fork was bent once. Solution: used a spoon.

Mine was a ford rebuilt long block. The car has given a 2001 Z24 a extremely close race. Maybe I just got lucky but this engine pulls like there is no tommorow. Unfortuaely it is throwing a CEL as of last night.
