I saw a post a little while ago (think it was Redcon96I4) re. the switchable transmission in some ATX's. So I set about looking for some more answers. Haynes manual states that the switch is in the shift panel of the center console, so I looked under to see if there were any extra wires.... (I was hoping that all wiring was the same, regardless of what options and trim!) Well after some knuckle scraping retreiving a screw I dropped into the shift assembly, it turns out that I did not find any extra wires for a dual mode auto tranny But it was fun all the same. Did Ford put this on any Contiques in North America? Is the CD4E modable other than with a chip?

I believe the consensus is that it's only in Europe.(Why do they get the good crap?, we're better) Only other mod I know to CD4E is to rebuild with performance kit from Level Ten or another company(isn't there another company?) It gives more power, handles more power, and shifts better. You can also paint the shifter and the actual transmission. You can put stickers on the shifter,etc.... ....

OD is great for merging onto highways and where you know you won't be sustaining speeds in the 70mph range for a period of time.
The ATX is this car has such a tall 4th gear that you will loose a lot of torque (but gain MPG) when that thing upshifts to 4th at 50 mph

I'm under the impression that you can get a new valve body (though prolly more expensive) despite not having the wires. But I'm almost positive that would add stress on the transmission.

Stephen[/b]But it is going to have a benefit because most of the Zetecs power is on the top end. You leave the OD on, the car is going to shift into 4th before you hit the limiter. W/O the limiter (w/chip) you can pull pretty hard with the OD off.

thanks MattIt will be quicker at highway speeds because when the O/D is on the computer is quick to shift into 4th gear for fuel economy. With the O/D off, the computer doesn't have that option so it stays in 3rd, which means you're at a higher RPM. All the Zetecs power is at the higher RPMs. For example, on my dyno I made my peak power at 5800 RPM and my peak torque at 5600 RPM. But it is the same on the street. Step on the gas off a light and see how quick it shifts into 4th with the OD off. All you have to do is let go of the gas a hair and it will shift.
