hey, I just got into the group about a week ago, and a couple of days after some dumb B!@#h decided to turn in front of me and ruined my front end. (thats ok though her car was pretty totalled )Was wondering if anyone knew if the bodystyle of the 96' contour was the same as the pre 96 Mondeo? if anyone knows, it would be helpfull, might get the body kit if it's the same.

I am confused here... Are u asking if the 96 Contour looks like the European Mondeo ?? I've seen a bunch of those during my vacations.. they lok somehow alike... but they are different... different head lights and things... Is that what u asking ?? You can find pictures of the 96 Mondeo here at CEG or even easier at Mondeo.org

If you are talking about swapping the front clip, you have some work. Supposedly the Mondeo headlamps are deeper, so they might require you to modify your radiator support. You will also need headlamps from the Europe mainland, and not the UK. The euro pattern will have its upwards slant facing oncoming traffic here, which will probably get you cited pretty quick. You will most likely need the header panel to support the euro lamps. The grille is different, so is the hood. You will need a new crash bar as ours is too thick. The Mondeo pumper is different then ours, it has a dip for the grill to sit into. The corner lamps drop off quicker as ours have a more gentle curve. You will also need a hood, both front fenders (you need a set of Contour fenders too). The Mondeo is missing the bodyline that we have under the ding strips. To make it line up, you will need the lower sections of your fenders grafted onto the Mondeo pieces.
Its a lot of work. To my knowledge, noone has dared try it. Shipping is going to be a big pinch on your wallet too. For curiousity, I ran a rate check on UPS for you, pretending you are shipping a crash bar. Going on the dimensions of 60"x8"x6" (smaller then actual) and insuring it for $75, you will be spending more then $80 just in shipping. Fenders/hood/lamps will probably be less because they are smaller. The bumper cover is going to hurt though, just because of its size. When I shipped my 98+ trunklid from MI to UT, it was $100. That was using my family's business rates and shipping it through Overnite Transport. FedEx and UPS wouldn't even touch it.

I saw a combat kit on the website at Prosport.uk.com for the mondeo it looks just like the pre-98's here except for the back lights so I figured that it might have the same demensions as the Contour here in the states. but from the sounds of it, it might not work. if you guys know anything else that would be great. thanks for your help, Johnny

nothing off the mondeo's will be a simple bolt on for body parts or headlights. some modification will be needed.

From what I have heard, the sideskirts are a bolt on. However, its cheaper to just buy some from Bill then to pay normal price and then pay all that shipping.

well, I figured that a little modification might have to be done but, I figured that since it's at the body shop they might be able to do it. Do you think that it would even be worth it? I saw a previous topic that had happened in december about having the SVT kit fit the pre 98's, would that be a better idea to do?
thanks in advance for your help,
Johnny
