After searching I can't find anything on the noise my car is making. I bought my car 2 years ago (99 2.0 mystique) with 11,000mi now with 83,000mi over the last year there has been alot more noise coming from the front of the car. It sounds like a hole in exhaust but at also doesn't. it's while accelerating and the sound is loudest at 3,500rpm and quieter up or down from there. if i cover tail pipe I here no leaks. the noise is there every time the needle goes through that zone. It also is only while driving now when in park and reved? I did complete tune up to try and fix it, plugs, fuel-air-oil filters, but no change. please help if you can because these zetec's are buzzy to begin with but this is annoying. thanks

the zetecs make lots of funny noises that r normal for them. I can't remember, but there is one that all zetecs have. as long as performance is affected u probably shouldn't worry. If u really want to fix it, u might be in for an expensive replacement part that's built differently.

Was it doing that before the tune up? It almost sounds like the change mine went through when I upgraded the intake. Is the airbox sealed good? Check the whole intake, from the fender to the engine. Mine is also loudest at about that rpm (not real sure, no tach). You might just want to replace the whole intake system anyway with some sort of cold air setup. That way you'll know where the sound increase came from, where the extra hp came from, and you probably won't be able to hear the noise anyway. Good luck Btw, my car drones too, but generally only when my wife is riding in it.

andenthal: Yes it has been getting louder for the last year and my tune up didn't change anything. But like you said it's not that bad. I'm sur that with mor miles i'll get more noise! As far as a CAI goes I don't think it would be worth it to me because nothing will change the ATX tranny which is so unresponsive. Answer: 3 more years/$8,000 to THINK before I buy next car!

Mine is making a rattle that's getting increasingly noticeable, but I only really hear it while driving if I pass by something that reflects sound. Maybe it's valve tappets?

This car has a lot of potential it is up to you to bring it out.
