Overdrive is a highway gear that will lower rpms and increase mph while cruising the highway!

Some people leave it turned on all the time, city/hwy, but I turn it off in the city and on on the highway. I find that I get better response in the city if it is off!

Really it is up to you!

Stephen

with overdrive off, third gear is the highest it will do, i wouldn't leave it off all the time, it will suck up your gas!

It's just a gas saving gear, The car will be more responsive and quicker when off.

And pulling 5500 rpm at 75mph

If you like cars with only a 3 speed, why not buy a 1994 cavalier?

Leave it on 98% of the time, and turn it off only when you specifically want to rev high, such as either in a sprint, or on a long descent where you want to save your brakes. (On a steep windy descent, you can help your brakes a lot by putting it in 2.)

Well I assumed the guy knows not to cruise down the highway at 75, but if I was racing and shifting some what manually. Thats right about where I'd click the O/D button.
