I have a 97 Merc. Mystique with the 2.0 Ztec and am wanting to put on a K&N filter and remove the airbox. People I know have just bought conical K&N's and adapted them to the intake and I was wondering if I could do the same. I saw the part # for the filter on this site for my car and wondered if it was a conical filter or if it was same as stock. If anyone has any part numbers for a good K&N and how they mounted it, please let me know. I need some guidance with this, I am kinda new with doin mods. I would appreciate the help. Thanks!

well instead of trying to adapt a cone K&N filter get either a CTA intake or a KKM intake they are both cone filters the CTA replaces all the nasty plumbing going to the TB where the KKM just replaces the air box. KKm is about 100 and the CTA is about 130... or you can wait for D Davis intake he is making no price as of yet though...

OOH and Welcome to CEG...

look here for some prices and parts. I think you can get regular K&N filter at Pepboys or Discount Auto that just goes in the airbox. Personally, I like my CTA. Worth the money.

I paid $152.00 for my CTA intake including shipping from CTA Motorsports and not only can you feel the pickup but it looks pretty too.... Check it out, I think it's the most popular with the Zetecs.

Hey guys, I want to thank you for the help. I was just downtown a little while ago and we did some surgery on my car. I ripped off the top of the airbox and filter and my buddy attached his K&N filter to it... All I can say is its amazing. The sound was really and inprovement!!! And I took off up a hill, holding the good old auto in second and I hit about 72 mph in 2nd gear!!! It gave me over 5 more mph and about another 500 rpm out of every gear! I was really impressed. My congrats to K&N.... smile I will be off to the store to get myself one this week..... Thanks again for all the help and I will most likely be putting some more questions up here soon.
