I compared the K&N filter to the Motorcraft filter and they were almost identical. Basically, they were the same size. Not sure about the inside construction, but I can't see how the filter could cause more oil pressure. Who knows?

No, I'd had it a year by then, and I think the previous owner had been using the wrong filter too. It may have been a matter of probabilities... like, every time I started it, a one in a thousand chance that the oil would fail to pump.

OOOOKAAAYYYY somebody somewhere is smoking crack. I think on the box for the K&N which I have been using on two different cars, it crossrefs the correct fram oil filter for our cars. That is what you look at. More research??? OK. Take and crossref the fram back to the motorcraft. It seems to work....Dunno why K&N would make a statement like they did. Again goes to the statement...the car is no longer in production so...... Any hooo. Like I said two cars, one a 2.3 mustang with the PH8A filter refferenced to the K&N (believe it or not, the PH8A also fit my 67 Chrysler 383 engine) and the same goes for the Mystique. I think you will be fine Rich
'96 Mystique, Zetec, MTX. ---Mods--- Removed both intake resonators and airbox. Installed APC air filter and APC crankcase ventilation filter. Removed exhaust resonator. Installed XM Satellite Radio. Replaced bad alternator and 175a fusible link...much fun! Intake plenum---GONE!!!! My car growls louder than yours. If I can't buy it, I'll build it...Trust Me!!!!

RichYES it does cross reference the Fram PH16/DG16 and the Purolator L14670/L26195 filters for our car on the box I'm looking at it as I type this... cause I'm putting another on of the K&N's on my car next weekend when I change the oil...

On another note, has anyone here tried to use the Mobil 1 oil filter, M1-204? It cross references with the K&N HP-2004 and the Fram PH16. The Mobil 1 site doesn't list one for our cars (surprise, surprise!), but I'm going to start using Mobil 1 now and have heard that I should use a Mobil 1 filter as it's designed specifically for their synthetic oil. Any thoughts?
