Hey,
I noticed that ZetecRacing uses the K&N Gold Oil Filter on his car. I didn't think K&N made an oil filter for the 4 cyl. A part number will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help. smile

I believe that he posted it was 2004. The one for the SVT is 2010

Thanks Lee, I guess I'm just concerned (or skeptical) if K&N doesn't list a filter for the 2.0 Liter Zetec and yet the HP-2004 will fit. Would there be any harm done by using this K&N filter? Are the threads the same? Thanks for your help.

I just changed the oil today and the K&N HP-2004 oil filter works great. Fits right up there like it was made for the Zetec. Funny that K&N doesn't list it on their website for the Contour. They'd certainly make more money. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Your welcome. Sorry I didn't see your additional question till now. I can't imagine that the filter could cause any damamge. I mean after all it is a filter. The worst that could happen is that it doesn't filter and just bypasses.

That's true. I was just concerned with it being able to hold the same amount of oil as the Motorcraft filter. We shall find out.

That is not the worst that could happen. The worst that could happen is what happened to my POS '84 Mitsubishi Tredia: the aftermarket filter I used created a higher back-pressure than the factory one, and Mitsubishi sent out warning letters to owners telling them not to use aftermarket filters such as Fram, but I didn't get one because I was the third owner, so I went ahead and used something Fram-like........

...and one day the oil pump just didn't manage to pump the oil any more, and the engine froze solid in the middle of traffic.

I'm not saying this is at all likely with a Tour, but one should be aware that risks of this magnitude can exist when using incorrect oil filters.

The K&N filter (HP-2004) was the same size as the Motorcraft filter (FL200). The threads were the same as well and the filter fit perfectly. As far as the K&N harming the Zetec engine doesn't make sense. If anything I would think it would only help due to its better filtering and stronger construction. Anyway, let me know if there are any proven issues with using this filter and I won't use it next time.

ZetecRacing: this is the filter you have been using for the past 2 years right? I found an old post stating that you use the K&N 2004 oil filter and there were no problems. Thanks!
