Yes, that is part of the optimizing. Turn around time would be 1-3 days normally once I recieve the TB. We'll see actual dyno gains posted by D Davis, who is sending me a TB that should be here Monday. We'll see just how much we get if anything. That's why I'm doing the first one for free. wink

Isn't the only way to optimise the Contour/mondeo TB is by increasing the diameter of the butterfly, thus increasing the flow of air, polishing might be detrimental to airflow, slightly pitted surfaces have better flow dynamics than smoothed/mirror finished surfaces.

Knife edging might also make a small difference, maybe, but the volume of air your engine is getting is the same.

How about using a Focus header, with the focus central 65mm TB, and the throttle cable to match?

Knife edging may make a considerable difference, I suspect. Brad's changes worked for the duratec, so let's just see what Mr. Davis's results are.

The volume of air may not be the same at all. Anything that produces turbulence is going to lose velocity and/or increase back-pressure, and then a lower volume of air per second gets through.

mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

I just got a look at the TB last night that D Davis sent me. There are three HUGE edges that need to be removed, even worse edges than on the Duratec TB's, SVT or non. I'll take some pics and post them after I work on the TB tomorrow night to show before and after.

Optimized BNM TB's are not polished to a shine. They are left with light grit 45 degree (as close as I can get by hand) sanding roll marks. Polished to a mirror shine is to old school and is not used by many people any more. Removing objects that cause turbulence to bring air speed and density sure as heck is though... laugh

Focus TB's are not swapable with the Contour TB's. Totally different set up from what I've seen.

OK. I want one now.

Damnit Brad. Just when I thought I had escaped the siren-like lure of BNM... :p

So, can you secure TB's at a reasonable price or should I start hunting some boneyards?

I've found a couple of them in some scrappers, but I'd really wait until we see the results first. I'll be working on it tonight, sending it out tomorrow, and hopefully D Davis will have it for the weekend to get a first impression with, dynoed results soon after.

As far as escaping the pull of my BNM tractor beams, I scan all sig files to find those without BNM mentioned. Then I stalk you on the boards until I learn what your weaknesses are... when you least expect it, POW! Resistance is futile... :p

Well let me know the price if you decide to work on the scrappers.

I think I'm going to start calling you Borg Noon instead of Brad Noon.
