Just looked in my shop manual for my '96 Contour. There are five wires total. Three going into one connector, one branching off to a quick connect, and the large output cable.

3 Pin connector:
Green/Black-Indicator output from regulator
Gray-Regulator Stator Output
Red-Regulator Battery Input

Quick Connect:
Gray-Stator Connection

Large Cable:
Red-Alternator Output

96 Contour GL (2.0L Zetec, ATX)

Sony CDX-C780 HU, Sony CDX-805 10 disc Changer, Sony XDP-210EQ, RF Punch 100.2 Amp, RF Punch 240.4 Amp, Dual 12'' Punch subs, Four Infinity Kappa 693.3i 6x9's, Optima Yellow Top

CTA Intake, Hood Struts, EL Ford Logo, Hi Beam/Low Beam Mod, Blue LEDs in door handles and footwells

So if you want to make a WOT alternator cutoff, which wire do you switch? The gray quick-connect?

96 GL Zetec ATX, white with pinstripe, nickname " Sam Smooth "
mods so far: CTA intake with homemade heat shield, KVR drilled front rotors & carbon pads w/ 500° fluid
planned mods: exhaust (want to keep it quiet), e-ram (awaiting installation), diablo chip
involuntary mods: compression increased after head gasket failure

Sorry, didn't check back 'till now. In theory, cutting/disconnecting the Gray stator wire would disable the alternator.

I've never tried it, so I don't know if it will work for sure.
