When the engine is running it is making a light scraping sound. I traced it down to the timming cover and when I put my hand on the timming cover could feel a slight bumping sound. I'm fixing to go out of town for a week and not taking the car, but I am very intrested in what the sound is caused by if anyone has any ideas. Thanks Brad

how many miles you got? sounds like the timing belt is stretching and slapping against the cover......very common.......or the plastic cover could have just warped, which is also common.....make sure your timing belt is in good shape and throw you a couple fo washers on the cover for spacing and problem fixed.....

I have 28,000 miles on it and it does not do it all the time. I hear it when I first start the car and sometimes when I get home. Not sure how bad when driving cause it would be drowned out by normal engine noise. I will check the belt though good idea.

Tricked96, go heads up on the washer mod, I don't recall if someone mentioned that before I did in posts a while back.

Brad P, what you have to do is get some washers and take the timing belt cover off. Put the washers on the end of the bolts and rescrew the bolt(and cover) back in. Takes like 5 minutes and like 30cents(if that).

There is also a raised cover from Ford, but from what I have heard it is expensive.

By the way I am not taking any credit for the washer mod.

You can always take the cover off and leave it off...that should solve your problem. I've been running without a cover for a little while now with no ill effects.

Knocking as well. My cover has been off the car for the last (roughly) 20,000 miles. No ill effects here.

I think the pulleys would look better painted. wink
