Is there any reason a mild cam set would not work with vct(stock gears)? How would this affect the HMS turbo? Help would be appreciated

Cams on a ATX, from what i can see, theres no point. You cant control the rpm's, most cams have a sweet spot, ATX kills it. Same deal with ajustable cam gears, no point it you have an ATX.

Fazzman, I'm not sure that I agree w/ your comment about ATX "killing" rpms.

Because the ATX "learns" your driving style, it might limit top rpms if you dont regularly drive at that point (who does?), but a VCT Zetec definitely has a "sweet" spot that allows a good butt-dyno type reaction from low end of mid range on up in the rpm range (& no, I have never hit the limiter).

I thinks that its impressive when I can do a "two-gear" down shift (OD off-to third gear reaction) at 70 mph & still pass other vehicles easily when I need to.

Granted; an SVT it ain't, but the vehicle has a good balance of power, road manners & mileage capabilities! smile

Slowpoke: The Forced Induction forum comments from TAH mentions that his turbo kit will work w/ non-VCT & VCT engines but doesn't mention anything about after-market cams (maybe they're included?). Check it out!

I was talking about Mild cams such as the crane.
In drive my car shifts at about 6450rpm at WOT at which point the crane cams are done making power anyway.
I'm planing on the Turbo as soon as its available.

Fastest car I've owned was an ATX 70 Chevell SS 10.97 et (selling it was the worst mistake of my life)

the chavelle ss had to be sweet, huh?

my uncle just rebuilt one and that thing rules the raod as far as I'm concerned.

I would agree that the atx has sudstantial power when passing (clicking off the OD and bolting to 90 or 100mph) and I would think the cams would increase that nice feeling, especially with a turbo. However, no matter how you look at it the ATX does "kill" the sweet spot.
Anyway thats just what I think, and I really don't know too much.

Once you get beyond a 'fast rod' cam to the 'rally' grinds etc you need to ditch the 'slush' lifters and go to solids with shims..

I looked into this and was told from several people that an intake cam is all that is really needed for a mild street cam set, do to the VCT that advances and opens up the exhaust. You really do want to use adjustable gears though if you have access to a dyno for tuning.
