I finally found an instrument cluster w/ a tach on it but its from a MTX. Is it still possible to install it on my ATX? Will the tach read the right numbers?

I was always told you have to match transmissions (also told you have to match year and, of course, engine too). I assume it's due to the different ratios in the MTX as opposed to the ATX.

You don't have to match engines, AFAIK.
The reading is off of a resistor IN the tach gauge. Doesn't matter what type of tranny.
Either way. I have one for a Zetec. First $100 takes it. You can pay me with PayPal.

The year and engine must match up obviously. The wiring is already there you just install the new guages. I don't remember if the tranny must be the same or not. If they can be different that's easier because finding an ATX Zetec with a Tach is no easy task. Good luck. I seem to remember baco99 getting a tach from a v6 and the rpms not matching up. Could be wrong.

OK! Check it out.... You have to get a pre-98 guage for a pre-98 car. If you have a 98+ car you must get the 98+ guage...due to the different computers. NOW! The tranny type DOES NOT MATTER. The engine does. Even so, you find out what resistor is on the tach of an I4 and the value of the one for a V6. Desolder and solder in the one you need. If you have an I4 and get one from a V6, find out what value the resistor is for the I4 tach and go to the store and get that resistor to put in. I'll take a look and see what the value is on a pre-98 I4 tach. Are you following this? You need to be sure you have the tach wire of course. HTH John

Don't all the cars have the wires?
