I, too, do not have a tach. I asked about the same thing on the forum, and the general response I got was that it could be done. Unfortunatly, it will probably screw up your title if you take out the odometer. Of course, that's just if you replace the whole cluster. I'm pretty certain you could add a tach from autometer or the like though. Better check with others who have actually done it, though.

Go find a car in a wrecking yard that has a tach in it. Mystiques are the better bet because more of them had tachs than Contours did. Grab the cluster, and before you install it, you can also install the white face for the tach cluster. Make sure to have the mileage set before installing it, and also make sure the car you get it from has the zetec in it. It will just plug right in and work with no problem.

Same situation with me, too. Ive actually had a couple people laugh on the phone when I call a junkyard and ask about parts for my car. One guy said he never expects to have any.

Email me off list. I have a gauge cluster from a 96 Mystique with tach. Pre 98 have a cable actuated speedometer, after that it's different, so you'd need to get the cable type, and then make sure the wires are there for the tach. IIRC, they are. If you're interested, email me.

Trust me, it took me forever to find a couple, and now I'm down to the last one.

Go to www.copartfinder.com you will find every contour that has hit a junkyard. And there are quite a few.

I have been in contact with a salvage yard here. They have one for $85, that I was going to grab, but my concern is in the odometer. How do you get the miles to match? Is the a do it yourself thing or would I have to find a shop? (to adjust the mile that is)

Actually I didn't find the site. I was on www.feoa.net (a Ford Escort site) and it came up as a banner. I accidently hit it and I am forever grateful. I have gotten a lot from them. Also the Odometer should be reset by the junkyard. But if not you can take it to any dealership or any decent garage. But get it done. You would be suprised how easy it is to get caught.
