dude, i like fram xtra guard. i went 4200 miles between oil changes last time,(havoline 5w30 oil) i took 4 quarts of used oil from the crankcase- out of the 4.5qts i put in. unless you pay big money for like a mobil1 or other claimed "duties" oil filter, the rest are pretty much the same. i like the fram cuz of its grippy stuff they put on it. makes it so no matter if your hands are oily, you can still get a hold of it. just my opinion and experiences.
i will always have a comeback! :o)

Whoa!!! Every study and article you can read on filters all say the same "FRAMS ARE CRAP". Cheap canister, cheap anti drainback valve and fewer pleats. Actually, Motorcraft filters are pretty good but better in my opinion are the Pure Ones (made by Purolator) the Mobil 1 the best and Amsoil/Hastings. However, if you chagne your oil every 3,000 miles you can use crap for oil and filters and still get 100,000 plus miles!

FRAM= cruel and unusual punishment to your engine... For a dollar more, you can buy filters that are made much better such as WIX or Purolator or Motorcraft... Although as stated, any filter change is better than not doing it at all Originally posted by tbunder: dude, i like fram xtra guard. i went 4200 miles between oil changes last time,(havoline 5w30 oil) i took 4 quarts of used oil from the crankcase- out of the 4.5qts i put in. unless you pay big money for like a mobil1 or other claimed "duties" oil filter, the rest are pretty much the same. i like the fram cuz of its grippy stuff they put on it. makes it so no matter if your hands are oily, you can still get a hold of it. just my opinion and experiences. ------------------ Doug Sony CD,Billet aluminum valve stems,Racing style pedals,Trunk Cargo net, remote starter, keyless entry, Draw-tite hitch (for bike rack), now a Mobil 1 user

Let's not get retarded here...
Any filter will do if you change your oil every 3000 miles and are not racing SCCA.
So melodramatic in here sometimes.
Oil, now there's a different story...

guys, if you think fram oil filters are so much as 'crap', why does wal-mart sell them? and i would suspect that close to 70-80% of all cars that dont have a shop or store change oil, have frams filtering the oil. if you have some type of scientific study or some article which has performed a research study and came out with information proving that the fram xtra guard oil filter has a deficiency in filtering oil, send it my way. if you can prove they're 'crap', ill switch to motorcraft. like i said though, ive been putting fram oil filters on my '84 mercury rs turbo 2.3(a rare car) since new, and it now has 154000 miles and the turbo pulls just as hard today as it did when it was new. i believe fram is the preferred consumers choice i read somewhere. i personally do not have any problems with them. again, id love to read your proof, so show me some if you can. its one thing to talk, but id love to see proof in what you're saying. thanks
i will always have a comeback! :o)

http://members.nbci.com/_XMCM/minimopar/oilfilterstudy.html Make note of the email from the Allied Signal Engineer.. I have not used a FRAM filter since I started working there. Their claims are entirely and completely marketing bull****.[This message has been edited by perry (edited March 20, 2001).]

Again, you reached your 154,000 mile mark using Frams and changing every 3000 miles. In 3000 miles any piece of crap will do the job as there basically is no job to do! The oil has not accumulated dirt, sludge or contaminates. Wal-MArt K-MArt all sell Frams because they are cheap and unfortunatley people look for cheap when buying products at these outlets. Auto parts stores stock them for the same reason, people look for cheap parts and feel any filter is ok. It is if you change every 3000 miles. So buy a Fram and buy a Pure One and cut them open and see the difference or better yet, cut open a Mobil 1!!!!!!!!

perry, thx for the insight. that is the proof i wanted. i will now remove that fram from my mystique zetec, and buy a motorcraft or purolator, as both are the same it sounds like. i most likely will switch to a synthetic oil too just so i dont have to change it so often. again thanks. i still believe the fram's do ok if you dont leave them in for a long time. but i like to baby my vehicles, and from now on, it will be motorcraft for fords and puroltors for my ZR2 when i get it. good job, takes alot to convince me to change. :O)
i will always have a comeback! :o)

Now this is what I like to see. This is what the web is all about. Someone makes a statement. "Fram sucks." Someone says, "That's ridiculous bullcrap, show me proof." He says, "Okay, here's my source, and it IS credible." Other guy says, "Wow, thanks, I really learned a lot for that information you passed on to me." THAT is what it's all about. Us college students would call this 'college- level thinking." It's great. My English professor always says, "Everybody has an opinion about everything, even if they know nothing about it." And he's right. But- when we have an opinion BASED ON SOMETHING CREDIBLE, it becomes significant. Here's my opinion, based on personal experience but nothing scientific: if Wal-Mart sells it, that's enough reason not to buy it. I have also visited that oil filter webpage. I now buy Mobil One rather than Pennzoil filters, as Penn's are made by Fram. Randy
