Is it me or do our zetecs rev at high rpms very well?

I know that our powerband levels out at about 4500 but it seems to rev much better than my Honda 4 banger.

It also doesn't seem to mind revving so high almost like the car was meant to be run at 4000 rpm all the time.

What do you guys think?

mine seems to be in it's element revving between 4000 and 5500 rpm. i'm sure thats what it was designed for. the thing is, americans are used to fat great engines ticking along pulling you, whereas us british love lots of revs, thats where the fun lies!!
my car loves being caned!

Mine seems to like to rev because the trans is a piece of crap. Sometimes it will go from 1-3 and then double-downshift if I floor it, sending the engine screaming to redline. I hate Ford automatics and will not own another auto trans Ford for a long time after this car.

My 2.0L Zetec and 5 Speed manual trans
combo seems to start to work at 3500rpm
and provides useful power to about 6000rpm
the last 500 revs or so don't add much.

The engine does seem to five its best between
3500 and 6000rpm and is a bit weak feeling
below that. Mine is a 1997 model HC and the
engine was revised to give more low to mid
pulling power at the expense of top end
compared to the earlier HA/HB series Mondeos.

I find that my Zetec comes alive about 3000 RPM. It reminds me of when I used to work for Toyota in the late '80's when free reving 4 cylinders were their speciality. The owners manual says that the maximum sustained RPM for the Zetec to be 6250. I have to break my habit to short shift it. My old Dodge big block would probably fly apart if I held it for any length of time at that RPM.

OK Guys, rev those Zetecs and embarass those other 4 bangers!

Jeff

My old 88 lebaron gts (3 speed auto! whatajoke!) that thing always moaned and groaned and never wanted to rev very high, it was a huge 2.5l four banger! anyway, the original engine eventually broke a rod at 85 mph, so i bought my zetec mystique, and woah! did this motor wanna just turn! Fun!
And when anyones talking in the car, i just gun it and the song of the high revs and the KKM shuts em up!

I do take it up to red line. even to 7.25 when I wasn't paying attention. but to tell you the truth I like lower rpms. must be a farm boy thing
