Many months ago maybe even last year, there were some of you planning on installing these ATX kits. How did it work out? Was it worth the hassle? Thanks Paul 98 Mystique LS

Good question. Iknow the Transgo-kit is only a repair kit to get the valve body back up to OEM specs. There is a gentleman in Atlants, named Doug Lewis, who re-engineered a Trans-Go kit for the V8-SHO's, I emailed him but have recieved no response. If any CEG'ers are out there in Hotlanta, they might want to drop him a line at Ford Performance Specialists. Maybe He can do the same thing for our cars?

although not in a contour, my roommate had one intalled in his 94 atx sho when he got his tranny rebuilt. it made the shift points extremely firm. the 1-2 shift (i believe) was actually horrible. it would shift so violently that it would chirp his wheels almost every time going into second. not sure if this is a transgo problem or a tranny rebuild problem tho.

The Transgo kit modifies the valve body, as in drilling holes, so I doubt this is just a rebuild kit. It helps to aleviate excessive line pressure, especially on the first gen Contour's tranny which does have a known gasket-blowing issue.

See Chris that's what I thought, but ater reading the psotings of quite a few messge boards ont he TransGo shift kit for our tranny(specifically the CD4E.. like the on e used in the 626 and probes(not the 4EAT one)) they said it basically just firmed up the shifts on trannies that had been showing some wear.. so I dont know what it will do on a perfectly good tranny.. I know there are sno spring or valve changes in the kit(ie to increase line pressure to the OD unit, or anything like that..).. so who knows.. Then I came across that gentleman who works on the SHO kits, and he worked ith TransGo themselves to develop the performance shift kit for their trannies.. just thought I'd mention it..

I have had no experience with installing a shift kit in our cars, but over the years I have had experience with Transgo shift kits in general. For the most part the results has been excellent. They are not the easiest to install, and probably should be done by a very experienced trans mechanic, preferably during a trans overhaul.
I'm not sure that I understand why you would want one on a Contique though, since the auto trans in our cars is generally excellent to begin with. The way our cars shift is what many dream their cars will be like with a shift kit installed.

Thanks for the respones, what I was looking at was the kit for firming up the shifts to lessen wear, which ever kit that is. I am looking for what the most life out of the tranny and bang for the buck! Tall order I realize. I'm keeping the car for at least 10 years maybe longer. However do to costing cutting, I doubt I'll have the same luck with the Mystique, that I've had with my 89 Probe. Happy Thanksgiving Paul
