No, I'm not selling the Contour! laugh I found a killer deal on a winter car/project. It's an 84 VW Jetta GLI. Same as a Rabbit GTI (1.8L 8v motor, close ratio 5 spd, big front disks), but with four doors and a trunk. The car is a rust free Arizona model w/135K in red. Mods include: Autotech Header, Autotech Cat-back exhaust, new cat, G-Grind cam, K&N panel, Autotech drilled and slotted rotors, Autotech braided S.S. brakelines, Boge Turbo Gas shocks, Neuspeed springs, Autotech front and rear upper strut tower bars, EuroSport lower subframe bar, Poly bushings everywhere, new injectors, windshield, plugs, wires, distributor, great interior etc... no body damage!. The only downsides are a non-functional A/C condenser, torn up drivers seat, and no radio. He's also throwing in a Thule roof rack w/4 bike attachments!

The best part? It's only going to cost me $600 w/trade of my old mountain bike! laugh I'm pretty psyched. He really needed a new bike, and my old Kona fits him perfect. I'll meet him in New Mexico next weekend to do the bike for car swap. I'll link some digital pics of the car later..

Few! I thought you were getting rid of your car...
84 Jetta! Awesome! Project car you say? What's left to do??? laugh Did I tell you about my friend who has a 198x jetta w/ a turbo? He's a VW FIEND, but he loves my 'Tour. He'll have to come to our next meet and drool over our tours and your new VW. BTW, Autotech has a nice website. I think it's just www.autotech.com

So you're going down to NM? Where are you meeting him? I'm done with school on the 14th (Friday, right?) and I'm leaving that next day (Saturday). Want to drive down together? email me

Saturday in Santa Fe we are going to meet. Any ideas where we should meet? He's coming from Phoenix and neither of us know the area at all frown
My roomate Nat is going to come down w/me in order to drive my car back. Maybe I could bum a ride down w/you though? laugh I'd pay for gas and be your friend for ever and ever... wink

Here is a link to two photo's of the car: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1705160&a=13099099&p=49481042

After I finish a few more things to the Contour I am planning on swapping to an ABA 2.0 bottom end w/my 1.8 head. Torque goes from 105 to about 145 and hp from 100 to about 125. Not to bad as the ABA can be had for as little as $300 for a low milage short block. Some new wheels, a stereo, some coil-overs, and I'll have a sweet second car all for under $2500! Right now I need snow tires for it and a new drivers seat.

You scared me Alex... don't ever do that again.

The old car for bike swap ehh? yeah, I used to do something like that. I called it the "Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card for the Worth Nothing card" swap... or something like that.

Alex,
I don't know if you emailed me or not...yahoo mail is being slow and timing out, so I can't read any mail. frown So you're picking it up on the 15th. My only concern about taking my one car is the fact that I take a lot of crap home with me for the break. I could fit another person, but I don't know about another bike. I would like to save gas/gas money though. Carpooling rules laugh Are you staying over night? I'm trying to think of places in Santa Fe that are easy to get to...

I have a Rhode Gear Euro-Shuttle trunk rack. It's got six straps (two top, two side, and two bottom) and holds the bike like a roof rack; with the fork and rear wheel. It works great on my car. We could use that to hold the bike, then it folds flat so I can bring it back w/me and the Jetta.
Sound good to you?
I don't know if I'll stay overnight, I guess I'm going to play it by ear. I don't mind long days in the car though.

Hello all...

Sorry for the long diappearing act but work has me very busy this year.

Alex, you had better not sell the 'tour, I need someone to look up to.

I put the Pueblo date on my calendar, hope I'll be in town.

Talk to you all later.

Alex, I think we can work this. laugh Can we put two bikes on that rack? (Your trade and my bike...I gotta bring it home for the break.) I can stay with my friend in Longmont on Friday night, and we could head out Saturday morning. When's he going to be in Santa Fe?

I was thinking the Villa Linda Mall is pretty easy to get to. Maybe meet at the JCPenny's or something. If he's taking I-25 North from Albuquerque, he can exit on Cerrillos Rd. and he'd end up right at the mall.
