Well, I've finally sprung for new wheels and tires, and I couldn't be more pleased with the choice.

I'm running 16x7 SSR GT1's/with 225/50/WR16 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 PolePositions and the car has been transformed yet again. The tires are amazingly quiet (compared to the stock KDW's) and hold the road like crazy (going to a + size is never a bad thing, if you've got clearance). I didn't get a chance to weigh the SSR's, but simply by picking them up as compared to the stock 16" SVT wheels they feel lighter.

I'm currently running stock springs and struts, so rubbing hasn't been a problem under any driving conditions. I'll find out if I'm going to have rubbing issues in about a month with it lowered, though (I'm rebuilding my suspension with the BAT kit).

So far, I can't say enough about the combination. The extra width simply rules as does the lack of road noise with the tires. The looks/weight of the SSR's are really nice, too.

I'll try to post pics when I can.

FYI, if you are looking for SSR GT1's, you might want to purchase soon. The folks at Tire Rack have told me that the style is going to be discontinued soon (maybe only in the 16" flavor; I'm not sure, though).

FYI,

the 16" GT1's are about 15.5 lbs...around 3 lbs lighter than stock E1 style wheels. Thats 12lbs of unsprung weight that is gone! Of course, you gained some of it back with the wider tires. wink

Jato, great minds think alike. I'm running those rims except for the fact I'm using a 245/45/16 on mine! LOL Can't wait to see the car when we do the suspension.

OK, so I've got shopping cart width tires on mine compared to yours... wink

Man, those have to hold like suction cups!

FYI, I should have all the suspension components shipped to me in the next couple of weeks. BAT suspension, tie rods, control arms, SB links, strut insulators; I want to make sure I'm hitting everything so I don't mess around.

If your timeframe changes, let me know.

Regards,

I have SO3's as well, I was not only amazed by their traction, but I was also floored by their wet weather competence.

Rick, I swear you have 245/40/16's and not 45's...

I love SSR's...

You're right, I just checked the specs on the 45's and they're the ones. Tire rack has this size on close out for $75!!! eek If you like them, it may be the time to get another set for cheap.

I saw it, just don't know if I can swing it, but they have been great tires thus far. Maybe if they are still on special in the next couple weeks I'll pick another set up.
