What wheel size fits a 215/45/17? Is it 17x7 or 17x7.5?

At tirerack.com, I selected a wheel that was 17x7 then selected a tire that was 215/45/17 which was a suggested tire size. But at the checkout screen it tells me that the tire's diameter did not match the wheel size. confused

I'm so confused.

Both will fit fine. I've got 7.5 with 215-45-17.
The 7.5's fill the wheel well nicely.

If you go with the 7.5s, make sure to get a 42mm offset if possible. The 7 inchers should be 40mm for the best fit.

Thanks for the responses. So is it okay to ignore the warning tirerack is saying?

I just wanted to make sure before I dish out my money and get burned if I'm wrong.

diameter is wrong, you say?

hmm, that means the 17" , you sure you had the right wheel diameter with the same size diameter tire?

width is the 7 or 7.5.

Wait, this is a good topic. What's the pros/cons on running 7.5 comapred to 7?

I'm running 17x7.5 on 215/40/17 I love it and it sits flush with the body when you look on an angle.

Exactly, both the tire and wheel were @17" I don't know why it said the diameter is wrong.

I did a test on the other wheels and I don't get that error when I chose 7.5. I wonder if that affects the diameter in some way.

I'm deciding between these wheels since they're the lower priced 17's

Sport Edition Fox 2

Sport Edition Fox 5

Borbet Type T

Then I noticed the 5 lug pattern. Will tirerack know to send me the 4 lug pattern?
