I am looking for a good deal on some 205/40-17's. These will be for summer use only. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I would go for 215/45's. I had 215/40 and the sidewall was a little too small and unfriendly to the rim during encounters with pot holes. 205/40 is a little small for our cars. check out........ www.tirerack.com www.tires.com www.whalentire.com www.victoriatire.com use the search feature and it may help you out as well.

I've got a friend out in Howel with a Silver SVT. Anyway, 215/45R17 is the choice size, although some go for 225/45 but watch the rubbing. www.tirerack.com search by size, then look for the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 for $89ea + $8 shipping and $10-15 for mounting and balancing.

Stay away from the Kumho Ecsta Supras!!! I have the 235/40/17's on my SE and hate the living h-e-doublehockeysticks out of them. They have a cool looking tread pattern, but the center channel is overly huge for performance. This makes them slide in the turns like a mofo, have absolutely NO straight line traction, suck in the wet, and aren't worth a 50% discounted price IMO.
The 205/60/15 Firestone Winterfire snow tires I run have better handling and straight line than those things do.

.[/b] I quite like mine and auto-x with a fellow CEG'r that uses them very well. But tirerack also has Dunlop Sport W-10's for like $79 IIRC. It has a very agressive pattern FWIW.

I would stay away from Dunlop Sport W-10's too. If your not aggressive then don't worry abou tthe kumhos or dunlops. But if llike to drive aggressively then the Dunlops suck. I spun my car out with those on a mountain road while everybody else with their KDW's kept on going. If it weren't for the burm on the side of the road I would have been stuck in a deep ditch!

Anyone?[/b]Thanks but after investing a small fortune (for me anyway ) in a set of OZ's and 712's solely for the street I had better get many, many, many enjoyable miles off this set of rubber. What size are they though? Ooh, I was thinking real hard about having you powdercoat my track only E1's a nice evil black since you had the special, but they're in pristine condition... Anyone getting some outrageous colors?

Anyone getting some outrageous colors?Well, the special is about $100 per set less than what we'll sell them for once we get past the special. If you can make the $100 deposit, we'll hold that price for you pretty much forever until you pay the remaining $120 for the set of four. The tires are 235/40/17. Yes, they do require slight rear wheel well, uh, remodeling. Imagine my temper after doing all of that work for the resulting poor traction...
