Hey Everyone,
I'm am sending a set of 17inch rims from Michigan to California. Anyone know what the best way to ship them is? I checked on UPS.com and they estimated it would be around $24 per wheel! frown There has got to be a cheaper way than this! Any help would greatly appreciated! Thanks,
Andreas

don't know if it'll help, but a while back i was looking to do the same thing. after playing w/ the weights and package sizes for a little bit, it looked to me that if you sent the four tires as two packages of two, the total shipping cost was around $60 or so. do it as one package of 4 or 4 packages of 1 and the priced jumped to closer to $100 like you said.

not sure if this would still apply or not, but it's worth looking at.

To prevent damange make sure you band the tires good! Make sure there is two layers of card board that over run the tires that way to help eliminate any type of damage that could happen to them. As far as cost goes I have no Idea. I work at ups so I have a little insight on packing tires smile

When I got my first set of E1's with tires shipping was just under $100. They were shipped from Southern California to Denver, CO in two boxes. Via UPS. I've also shipped 4 individual E1 wheels(4 boxes)via the post office and it was about $15 per wheel so about $60 total. That was a shorter distance though from Michigan it'd be a little more. HTH. laugh

Edit: I forgot to mention, you're also shipping 17's which probably weigh a good amount more than the 16" wheels I shipped so that's a factor too. Try the post office, it should be a little cheaper.

FWIW, Tire Rack just puts a piece of cardboard over either side of the wheel, and straps it down. Then they slap on a shipping sticker. IIRC, I only had one tracking number for all 4 wheels.

For just a single tire, they slapped the shipping sticker on the tread.
