They are for the Wife's Eclipse. I have a chance to get a set of 205/55/16 mounted on steel wheels with covers for $350+shipping. The guy says that they retail for $300 ea. I think he is FOS, but winter has arrived in a hurry this week and I need to act quickly. What do you think? confused
He says they have about 2000 mi. on them.

From what I've heard, they are some of the best winter tires out there. I believe they are of Scandinavian origin (one of them really cool countries north of Germany) so they probably know how to make winter tires.

Probably the most important thing to know is how much tread is left. Many winter tires have a special compound on the first few 32nd's of tread, but revert to a more tradition rubber compound as the tread wears out. The special compound helps on ice, so once it's gone, the tires are not really anything special after that.

FWIW,

Hakkas are great. They do not have the mixed compound of Blizzaks (55% of the tread - then a regular winter tire). The guys up here are getting 5-6 seasons up here out of their tires. I find mine to be very sure-footed. The price sounds very reasonable. The tires are Finnish. For more info see www.nokiantires.com.

Personally I recommend them over any other winter tire although they are expensive. However almost any winter tire is better than running all-seasons (what a misnomer!). Try them you'll like them.
