Almost time for some new tires. So, of course, I'm exploring all options. I like the KDWs I have on my car now, but I looked into 225/45/16 tires (pretty good selection) just for fun. Anybody have this setup? Pros? Cons? Should I steer clear? Should I be a poineer?

Derk2000, You can be a pioneer if you like, but this combo is not recommended.
For one thing the 225 section width is really only feasible with a 18-inch diameter wheel. For example a Plus 2 fitment for the E1 SVT (OEM 215/50-16) would be a 225/40-18 or even a 225/35-18. Although the latter would provide a very stiff ride & possibly poor aesthetics due to the short sidewall height.
Similarly, the 45 series sidewall on a 16-inch diameter wheel is really too short & thus the ride quality would suffer. Also the appearance of this combo would look odd due to the fact that the short sidewall would not "fill" the wheel well enough, creating an unsightly gap between the top of the tire/wheel & the fender.
Either go with the OEM combo listed above or the original OEM SVT combo of 205/55-16. Or the Plus 1 option of 215/45-17.

This is what people have fit to SVT wheels based on what I remember:
205/55R16 215/50R16 215/55R16 225/50R16
I would not go any further than 225/50R16...IMHO that's pushing it. 205/55R16 or 215/50R16 (standard SVT tire sizes).

T-RedSVT, Say, that's a pretty neat little feature. I'll have to bookmark that page for future reference. Thanks.

FWIW, I have the Kumho 225/50-16's on my 'tour w/ the SVT E0 rims. I've never had a problem, even with 300 pounds of Emergency Medical Services equipment in the trunk and the car loaded with passengers going over rough bumps and sharp turns. NEVER any rubbing. There just not as wide on 6.5 rims like they are on 7". I've measured the section on mine compared to the section on a 1999 Grand Am GT. Now if you mount these on 7" wide rims, they might give you a problem. I've never heard of anyone going wider than a 225 section without serious mods to the wheel wells. 215/50-16 is probably the most ideal, though. I just felt like going to the extreme for a change...nothing else better to do around here. Anyway, HTH.

Depends if your lowered or your suspension. I use 215\40\17 and would not think of going to a biiger size due to rubbing. You might wear out a tire way to fast for what the price is. Choose wisely. Good Luck!

I'm confused here, too. What's wrong with him going to a 225/45-16? True, the speedo would be off by a couple percent. It has less chance of rubbing than the 225/50-16 size that has been used by CEGers before. Am I missing something?
