I have approx 26,000 miles on my set of KDW on a 2000 SVT.I think the problen is less a balance problem and more a "slipped belt" problem.A slipped belt in the tyre usually means the end of the road for the tyre.No amount of balancing will fix it.

I sent back one KDW to Tirerack for bad vibration due to bad misaligned wires inside. Then after about 30k miles, the vibration came back, this time it was just wear and tear. They looked terrible with flat spots and uneven wear from hard driving. I replaced them with a new set and they have been good. I love this tire.

If the noise does no shift, it probably is not the tire. I would guess you would need to replace both fronth wheel bearings.

I know it has been a while, but I bought a set of 4 Dunlop SP 5000's and the ride improved a lot, but the vibration was still there. One of my buddies at work pushed down on either side of the front end and told me my left strut was fried. Sure enough, there was oil running out from under the boot on the left side only. I had the car at the dealer for 8 days! All they did was balance the tires, twice!!! Ahhhhh! Now I have to have these idiots put in a new strut. Well, at least we found the root cause.

That sounds like a good reason to have Koni's installed .

One curious thing is if the front end is vibrating a bit more than usual (for me) and I hit the brakes HARD from say 80mph, and the vibration goes away. This I have noticed over the 2 years I have had my SVT. Seems to have something to do with the tires.

I had bad vibration problems that I attributed to uneven (cupping) on the inner portion of some Bridgestone RE730's. This created annoying vibrations around 75mph. at any other speeds, there was either less or no vibrations. Unfortunately I drive 90% on the highway so it has made me very sensitive to this kind of problem. You might want to check whether all the blocks are smooth vs some higher than others....
I ended up shaving some of the blocks in order to reduce the vibration and avoid trashing the tires. I had noticed the same kind of pattern on a 944 when I went to do a driving course at Watkins Glen.
I was told a re-alignment would fix the problem. I am now running So-3s. I hope not to have the same problem.
