My '99 Contour (V6/MTX) just hit 20000 miles and I've noticed that the tires are running a bit low on tread. I live in Wisconsin and we drive on snow and ice for 6 months/year so I'm thinking of putting on some new tires before the snow flies. The Firestones that came with the car seemed to handle well but I'd like a tire that handles well and lasts for more than 20k miles. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I got a set of Michelin MXV4+ Energy tires. They're not the greatest in the dry and squeal a bit, but great in the winter and rain here in Chicago. About $100 each. Worth every penny.

If you're interested, I have a half-used set of Michelin X-One tires in the 205/60R15 size I'd sell cheap. Still 40k miles left on them, only half-used. They're killer tires, very expensive.

Go to tirerack.com and take a look at all the tires available with test results and comments from buyers.

I have the Michelin MXV4 Energy Plus. They ride well and do most things fine, but next time I 'll go more for performance. The Bridgestone RE950 and the new Dunlop SP Sport A2 are both winners.

I have Nitto Extreme 450's that are actually M+S, I couldn't believe it either. These tires are Z speed rated and have the following stats:

1.treadwear-300
2.traction-A
3.tempature-A

I have the P215-45-17's and cost me $125.00 a tire, good luck with your choice wink

Dunlop SP5000- Terrific all season tire. Before picking up E1/KDW combo, I used them full time. Great in the rain, good in the snow and stick well for an all season tire. Go here for info www.tirerack.com

Well there are a lot of great tires out there. I personally just put on the Bridgestone Potenza RE-950's. They suppsedly have a really great wet/snow traction rating. Wet is good, but have not experienced snow yet.
