Ah, I'm pretty sure I'm bringing up a new subject... I've searched the DB and could not find any post on this subject.

You know how the RIMs get really dusty because of the brake dust, I was thinking, is there a way to prevent this from happening. At least reduce the amount of dust. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe luxery cars such as Porshes have something that prevents this dust from going on the rims... One of my old buddies has one and told me that he never had to wash his rims.

Anybody would now why and if this can be done to a Contour?

Mintex brake pads and other things have been brought up. Search again for brake dust; I found that mother's polish can remove it, and there are several threads dealing with pads that don't have the same dust problems.

What about waxing the rims? Wouldn't that make it easy for the dust to just come off, or not grab hold?

Waxing will help. I've got Performance Friction pads and its a lot less of a problem. My stock pads were completely blacking out my wheels in 3-4 days.

I know that people love to show the rotors off and all, but to prevent brake dust you may want to look into a system that I saw on one Lincoln I worked on... between the rim and the rotor was a thin sheetmetal disk painted black that fit inside the rim with maybe a very small gap on the perimeter... very effective at keeping brake dust off..... you may want to try something like this..... hope this helps.

Green Stuff pads I hear are real good for keeping dust off. Just think of it this way..free gunmetal colored rims
