Ok trying to follow the instructions for doing the fog light while in park mod.. and I can't for the life of me get the 2 lower 7mm bolts out... the socket just won't fit. Yet it worked fine for the upper 2.

What the trick here? I've tried pushing and pulling the panel all over the place..

Help before I grab the chop saw! smile

TIA,
Ray

Should be 3 bolts op top, and 2 down low...

If someone else owned the car before you, maybe they changed the size of the bolt. Did you try other size sockets???

I have a 99 SE with the V6.. only 2 up top under those annoying little plugs.. and 2 down below.

And it is the same size (My dad owed it before me) but I checked the socket fits the problem is the plastic around it is preventing the socket from getting on enough to turn the bolt. I tried trimming the plastic but no luck.. and I don't think they make hyper thin walled sockets in 7mm. I've been working at it for over 2 hours with no luck so I'm to the point of just cutting it loose.. smile

Thanks,
Ray

I too had a problem with the lower two on my 95 SE. It is actually possible to do this mod without dropping the panel. Send me a private message and I will enlighten you.

DONE!

Dear god that was a pain.. And all because some dumb line tech torque on the bottom to nuts SO hard that they warped the metal backing plate and buried the heads into the plastic. Tok my cuz (who builds model cars) with an exto to extract the bolt heads from the plastic and then some serious carefull wrenching to pull the bolts.

But its done and LOOKS oh... so cool...

Thanks for the write up in the FAQ who ever did it.. and thanks for the help offered here.

A thankfull its over,
Ray

Had the same problem here - couldn't get the top middle one out w/o trimming the plastic away. And I sheared the heads off of two of the little b@stards putting them back in. Duh, WD-40 anyone? I'm drilling them out tomorrow - you'd be surprised how hard it is to find M5 screws around here. mad

a lot of times the hydraulic wrenches they use at the factory get very very hot. so hot that the screws being put in will melt through the interior panels. this is why they seem so tight that they go through the plastic. this may also be the case.
Most people will probably have the same problem, i had similar problems on my VW, although not as much. laugh

just gotta be tenacious on this type of thing. ie. there is ALWAYS a way!
glad you got it!

Ahh that makes sense... I was thinking they put them in so fast that the friction melted the plastic a bit. I'm SO glad my cuz is good with an x-acto.

Now I run the fogs all the time.. (Trying to burn one out so I have an excuse to get some 85 watters)

Thanks again guys,
Ray
