Okay, did some searching through the forums, but the answers aren't there. I want to reduce road noise that is getting in from the trunk area. I saw a couple of posts from people who said that they were going to cover the vents in the trunk with sound deadener, but they never posted results, so anybody do this? What was the affect? Seems a lot of noise can enter through those vents.

I also remember reading a post sometime ago that someone made a wooden cover for the trunk floor that helped with noise control a lot, but can't find the post. Has anybody done this, was it worth the time/effort?

Just trying to get some ideas kicking around cause right now the new Borla generates a little to much noise at times, and I'd like to quite things down so that long trips aren't so bad.

After I got my resonator removed I got annoyed with the drone in the cabin, the over all sound was okay but the drone sucked.

What I did was follow someone elses advice and take 2 2x4 sheets of insulation foam. The big white stuff a inch thick at home depot for 2.99. I took out the carpet liner in the trunk and traced it onto the foam. I cut it to shape (helps if you have a hotwire) and put it in under the carpet liner.

Result: Didnt help on the resonator at all. Not sure if it would help Mr. Borla either. IMPROVED DRAMATICALY with overall road noise, tire noise was down immensly. For 6 bucks I believe this is the best and easiest way to aproach it. If your not happy take it out oh well. Try it before you blow a ton of cash on sound deadener for 26 bucks a can. Especially if your only worries are road noise. Good luck.

i was going to do what madic did, but i use my trunk a lot so the foam stuff wouldn't hold up very long.

i bought some sound deadening material for my trunk similar to dynomat, called b-quiet (original) (www.b-quiet.com) 90 sq ft for $99.

results were pretty good. not drastic or great, but did reduce noise.

i have plenty of the stuff left over, let me know if you want to swing a deal for some.

The foam I used is actually holding up pretty well. You have to put some small scrap pieces on top of the spare tire to keep it all level and from sagging and breaking into the hole. I have a 100 pound speaker box resting on top of it with no problem. It may break down and become a problem but for 6 bones its worth a shot. smile just letting anyone know. I would buy sound dead if I had the loot. But would still keep in my foam.

Well I've got a 90 SQ Foot roll of the B-Queit stuff that I'm gonna be using on the car, I am just trying to get ideas of the best things to do to reduce noise.

Do the entire trunk floor, the area under the rear seat and the whole floor of the cabin if you can. If you have enough material, do the outer door skins inside the doors, as well as the inside.

Consider doubling up the sound deadening on the floor and in the trunk.

I did my trunk with some Ice and Storm shield, $25 for 100sq ft. Helped some, but not much. I still need to do the doors, though. I may buy a piece of 2" thick insulation from Home Depot next.

i spreayed 2 cans of 3M undercoat spray in the entire trunk area and then covered the whole trunk floor and shock towers with some sound deading foam that was left over from one of my dads antique boat projects. it is really quiet in the trunkk now even with the seats folded down.
