Hi guys,

The TCS system does require some extra hardware over the basic ABS system. It uses the wheel speed sensors of the ABS to detect wheelspin, but has an additional pump and valves fitted to the hydraulic actuator. The pump and valves are used to braking apply pressure to the spinning wheel, diverting the torque to the wheel with most traction. It also closes the throttle plate to reduce the engine's torque output and match it to available traction. The braking of a spinning wheel only happens at lower speeds (up to 30MPH I think), over this only throttle plate adjustment is used.

The switch isn't necessary for the system, it is only used to override it should you want to. The system is switched on by default. If you have the system, the TCS warning light in the dash (next to the airbag light) should illuminate for a few secs when you switch the ignition on. It also flashes when the system is in operation.

Here is a pic of the TCS switch in my Mondeo, it is next to the heated seat switches below the stereo:

ok, so my 98 E0 does NOT have any wiring going to the blank switch area. Nor do i have a TC light in the dash. At least i've never seen it at boot up, nor when spinning my tires.

i guess the E0s got shafted on that one?

man am i more and more jealous of the mondeo all the time, recirculating fan switch, seat heaters, TC, H4 headlights, the list goes on and on! mad

Please: put something meaningful in your post subject! NOT "please readme!".

"your" is possessive, "you're" is the conjunction that is short for "you are", "there" is for "the dictionary is over THERE", "their" is the possessive one, and "they're" is a conjunction that is short for "they are". have a nice day

Don't feel bad, I may have the wiring, but the TC light doesn't ever come on for me either ("at boot up", you DO go to RPI! :p ). And I am equally as jealous of the Mondeo's. The content is maddeningly superior. I mean, ****, who ELSE has elextric blue gauges?! That frickin' rocks! I'd forego the heated seats and other luxo-items for some of the aesthetic coolness that the mondeos have (headlights for example, as you mentioned). *****ing will get me nowhere as the Contours are cancelled anyway!

The wiring was already there for the switch, but it was already known that it had TC, prior. The traction control light lighting up in the gauge cluster, when the front tires were loosing traction in wet conditions, and during initial drive clean testing, were dead give aways.

The switch was added at a later date.

Hi, I have a CSVT 2000, and have the wiring harness there too. I got the switch today put it in and nothing.... Is there something that I am missing? Thanks...

More than likely the answer is yes. As was mentioned previously (not flaming, just pointing out), there's a possibility (and likelihood) that your computer is not setup to have traction control. The hardward is pretty much all there, but the ABS computer doesn't have the necessary modules to do it. If when you start your car the TC light does not illuminate in the dash and if anytime you spin your wheels it doesn't illuminate then your as SOL as I am. You can probably get a Contour SE unit that has the capabilities, but you, unfortunately, need more than the switch.

I stumbled across this thread and while I don't have much to add to the dialogue, I wanted to just give a tip of the hat to the fine folks from the Capital District of NY.

I wonder if Ford just produced a very small segment of the production run with these TC-equipped cars? Perhaps they were produced in a specific sequence?

Just a thought. Again, hello to all the folks in Albany-Schenectady-Troy.

To have traction control you need the combuned traction control/abs hydraulic module, the THROTTLE ACTUACTOR (give 3 cables to the t/body)and the wiring, switch & 'software'.
