Its just the generic glasspack that most exhaust shops use. I was not concerned with the glass wearing out becuase how could it get any louder than it was with a str8 pipe.
It is a small (about 12in x 3.5in)resonator and it has baffles inside. These are just little dimples that are raised up from the tubing. When turn backwards the exhaust travels over the baffles instead of into them. This in turn spins the exhaust and eliminates the resonance causes by the high speed travel of the exhaust. This is how it was explained to me and it definitely works. 1 month and it is still sounding great; and as loud as ever!

They welded in stainless for me for about $50. Coupled with an aftermarket intake, removing the resonator is a cheap and good mod. Glasspaks kinda suck for sound deadening, they end up blowing out the innards quickly.

MystiCali,
Do you have any pics of this mod? I put a straight pipe in place of my resonator as has been recommended by so many people on here, and it was louder, but I couldn't get over the raspy sound that it had...very annoying and almost embarrissing. I even had someone ask me what was wrong with my car. Needless to say, I "undid" the modification, and put the resonator back in, but if you can get more information on this mod, maybe a how-to, I would be interested.

Well, I don't have any pics of the resonator for ya so I am not sure how much help I can be for that. I will see what I can do though. The rasp is what drove me crazy as well. I just went to an exhaust shop and asked for a resonator that would cut down on the rasp and thats when he explained to me about how the glasspack turned backwards spins the air killing the resonation of the str8 pipe. Its just as loud as it was b4 just cleaner. I didn't do any install myself. The shop just cut the resonator off and welded the glasspack in. I have had many compliments so I know it doesn't sound like crap!

I have a question. Are any of you guys trying to get stainless to replace the stock resonator? I've tried everywhere and can't find anyone who carries stainless pipe. I don't want to have something installed on my car that is going to rust out in a year. If i decided to go the "reverse glasspack" route, do they carry those in stainless as well, or would i be better off just replacing the whole system because of the cost of stainless pipe/glasspack. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Joe

I believe Dynomax makes a high-flow muffler that is stainless steal. I had a stainless pipe welded in at a local exhaust shop. Cost double what the aluminized steel costs. The tech said aluminized steel will last about 5yrs, stainless will last like 100. A local CEGer has an SVT system with only a Dynomax Ultraflow (stainless) instead of a resonator, and straight pipes all the way after that. It sounds unbelievable. I love it!
What is all this talk about a 'reverse glasspak'? Why backwards?

I am very disappointed with my former muffler, a Dynomax aluminumized turbo. My exhaust kept getting louder and louder so I replaced the complete system, figuring it is a bad glass pack. Wanting to save the Dynomax for future projects, I cut it off. A large chunk of rust came out of the pipe, it came out of the muffler. Found some holes in the tubes inside the muffler. Some rustproofing! The stock mufflers last longer. If I should ever replace my resonator again I would use a another brand of turbo or a stainless model. The noise will drive your batty after a few weeks of traffic.
