speed ticket in Tennessee is here 71 on a rural hwy (55 limit). I asked the cop (who was quite nice btw, I think he was up to a fatherly lecture until he walked up to my car and spotted the radar detector... then he returned to his car for the citation booklet). You get what you deserve or so.... I asked for his advice on what to do (I'm not familiar with these things in this country) He said I shouldn't appear at the court since it is my first ticket it wouldn't change anything, I should just send in the check and plead guilty this way. (it was in Hickman cty, the court is in Centerville). Do you agree with his advice ? Any experiences ? thanks, Tiv

I personally would find out the price of the ticket and see if you could take traffic school to keep your insurance from going up and affecting your driving record...I recently did this and saved 40 bucks on a ticket...71 in a 55 caught by a trooper. 170 ticket, payed 130 for traffic school and court costs

How does this traffic school work ? If it costs the same, I guess I'll go to the school to save my insurance... Thanks for the info Tiv

Welcome to the club, Tiv! I've been pulled over 5 times and I've gotten two tickets. Hey, I can't help having a fast car, or at least a blatant disregard for the law.

Go to court and if it's your first ticket in that county then you'll get driving school. Most counties in TN have it. it only costs from $35-$120 to take and nothing goes on your driving record. Believe me, i know, :DI have been to driving school in Fentress, overton, putnam, morgan, and cumberland counties there in TN, only tickets i ever paid was in anderson county and one in fentress. This was over the course of 4 or 5 years though. It seemed like almost every cop in East TN knew my name and my little blue escort by the time i left there a little over a year ago. Hopefully all this talk about tickets in TN doesn't follow me when i visit home in about 3 weeks. :p Any of you TN people know where jamestown is? Probably not. LOL but that's where i'm from and i'll be there the last week in may. Ok, i'll shut up now. Go to court, get traffic school, and you'll be done with it.

When you take the traffic school they say that you can only take it one time per county...I had my school officer tell me that you should take it as many times as you want, cause they never check that and it stays off you insurance and driving record. My traffic school was cool as shiznit...we sat around eating pizza and talking about various laws that were coming into play. The officer's brother was on America's Most Wanted for a chase that happened in our town in the early 90's and I know the guy personally...Cool as hell. He was giving us tips on not getting pulled over and stuff...Even did a little experiment. Did you know that aluminum foil balls in your wheels or hubcaps will scrabble the radar 90% of the time....we even we outside and tried it on my car....none the less I was amazed. And now I am rambling on at 3:30 in the morning.

To be honest if it's not in the same county as your insurance registration then I wouldn't worry about it. Just pay the ticket and forget about it.
In Tennessee(and most states for that matter) if it's under 15mph over or less than 75mph the citation isn't reported to the state or listed on your record. The only notable exceptions to this are if you get a reckless driving ticket and any tickets from out of state. Those are immediatley reported to the State.
I don't remember who exaclty told me this but it was from a valid source. So if your going to speed just keep it within 5-10MPH of the limit and under 75.

I wish AZ was like TN in their driving school ways. Here you can only take it once every 2 yr's in the state, it's not based on county. I'll tell you that AZ puts every single violation on your record too, Cops here suck!

i have to agree with lee on this one......from nashville on my back to carson-newman one morning, i got stopped for doing 80 around a curve that was rated at 60 on the interstate...on I40.......anyone know which curve i am talking about! anyways, i asked the trooper about it, told the situation about being out of county and on my way to school, he said honestly your best bet is to just pay it, keep a clean record and after a year or so it will dissapear.....no biggie.....my $.02

Regardless weither you take the driver safety course, that ticket will still be on your driving record. Now, in some cases it does not go on there if you take the course, but more than half of the time it will still go on there. I work at a car insurance place, so i deal with this same thing almost on a daily basis. Just pay the ticket.
