Take your grain of salt.
I just got off the phone with my local SVT guru. He had some interesting information that I thought I would pass on to my fellow CEG'ers. He tells me that the Taurus will cease production in '04. At that time Ford is supposedly introducing two new vehicles to North America. One larger than the Taurus and one smaller.
I don't care if this rumour is fact or fiction, post your thoughts on what the two might be.
My guess Larger: Ford Falcon Smaller: Ford Mondeo

I heard about the Taurus going away awhile back. The replacement must be really something, seeing that the Taurus is one of their best-sellers. I've read the smaller sedan will supposedly be under the Mercury brand, which means no SVT.

Mercury Mondeo has a nice ring to it.

I'd say the large one will be Taurus Here read the following press release from Chicago. It states that the Taurus will remain in the line-up. http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=10991

as long as they don't change anything from the european mondeo to the US mondeo, because they already tried, hence our cars.
But it will be sweet when they introduce it. I will be buying a mondeo when it comes over seas.

I also read in the Boston Globe that the Taurus was dying and the replacement will be larger. An addition will be a "crossover" vehicle. IMO, 2004 will be a little late for a new "crossover" vehicle. The fad will have worn off by then, methinks.

By 2005 there will be a awd vechicle released based on the mondeo by mercury. There is another possibility but I can't remeber the other car.

Why would they get rid of thier best selling sedan(Taurus) don't believe that one, it would be a stupid move on Fords part. Remember they also talked about killing the Mustang about 10 yaers ago, didn't happen, too many stang fans

Why not they Killed the Contour for more SUV's, Crossover to replace Taurus and Mercury to go it's own way and possible off shoot of Mondeo, then it was Mazda 6 adaptation ??? Of course that was before Nasser departed. Yes. We hope Ford can restore Ford back to building cars instead of empires. Paul

Last I heard, the new Taurus was going to be based of the Volvo S60 platform. I think I read this in C&D a few months ago, FWIW.
