In G Stock, with auto-X tires and Konis, I may have beat MacLeod and the very well-driven 300ZXs, but probably not Couture. But considering his place at the Nationals, I can live with that. wink If he or MacLeod had been driving my SVT, they probably both would have smoked my time considerably.

I think Couture and MacLeod were slowed by the fast course with two substantial straights. They were both very smooth and fast in corners (as I witnessed working the hairpin) but no doubt lost time on the straights. Further evidence of the FAST course is the strong performances by the WRX D Stock winner, and the two Z-28s! The WRX D Stock winner, Jacobs, was slower than Couture at April's Detroit event, but faster at this event, which is further evidence of the faster (acceleration-wise)course.

For STS reference, the other class we run, the STS winner was an old VW GTI that ran 23.895 despite his lack of acceleration! My totally stock time would have been second out of the multiple STS cars so our car has pretty good STS potential I suspect.

For those who care about such things, my PAX time was 19.050 using the .785 multiplication factor. That would have been good enough for 10th in the PAX indexing out of 125 cars on true street tires and no other mods. The PAX top ten were:

George Williams F Stock Z-28 17.698
David Walters F Stock Z-28 17.998
Stevew Couture G Stock Neon ACR 18.15
Peter Jacobs D Stock WRX "Wagon" 18.314
Larry MacLeod G Stock 200SX SE-R 18.732
Tom Smith STS old VW GTI 18.734
Steve Krause E Stock older Miata 18.746
Steve Brouwer D Stock Audi S4 18.802
Jason Butts G Stock 300ZX 2+2(great driver!)18.988
Cole Milstead G Stock/SVT Stock 19.050

In conclusion, we need a national class driver to see the light and start driving our car! It has the potential for a top ten in G Stock or STS at Nationals!! The rest of us would learn from his legal modification techniques.

Glad you are home, I just got in.

I would agree that there is STS or even STX (if you wanna spring for the Quaife) potential in the Contour.

What SVTCole didn't mention, and you need to read between the lines is his car was essentially stock. He turned his time on street tires, not race tires.

So if you have enough cubic dollars, you could build an STS or STX car that is competative.

Thanks to SVTCole and the others who coached and encouraged us, as well as the Spring Zing organizers, such as Mark, Steve and Todd (I know there are others!) for bringing us this event.

It was a blast, and I'm personally glad I was able to redeem myself after turning in the worst time in a Contour, period, during last years SpringZing AutoX event.

Those honours would go to me this year. wink I ran a 28 something and DNF'd on my other 3 runs. eek Rusty from MD won the stock Contour class in his green SE with a time of 26.2 (?) - way to go Rusty!

I believe the fastest time overall was a guy driving a shifter cart (ran a 21 something) and please corret me if I'm wrong but Jeff (not from CEG) ran a 22 something in his *stock* WRX *wagon*!

Anyways, I wasn't sure what to expect but I had a blast and I'm really glad I gave it a try. I hope to find and participate in autox events in my local area this summer. Thanks to everyone who offered advice and encouragement and especially to the organizers of Spring Zing '02! cool

Hi, I'm the silver duratec taurus that parked next to Tony (thanks for letting me use your air compressor). I was also the starter for the 1st heat. It was nice meeting all of you that I did get a chance to meet. I ran a 26.781 and attained my goal of not getting last in STS (where I didn't really belong, but that's another story). Thanks for organizing such a great event.

No problem. You were probably in STS because of the aftermarket wheels?

I don't know the classes that well, I'm just a novice too. Next year Gerald will knock me off and he'll be posting how he out drove last years SVTM winner in a stock SE laugh

As long as you are having fun, keep driving.

no, I was in STS because that's what I pre-registered for, thinking I may have an SHO sway bar on by the event, but I didn't, and then was hustled through registration and tech so fast I didn't get a chance to ask to change classes. Well, next autox I go to I'll either run in GS or have the suspension mods to back up being in STS.
