I am getting ready to buy some 'R' compound tires for Auto-X and would like some help.
Has anyone tried the Kuhmo Ecsta 700 tire yet? What is the difference between them and the Victoracer 700?
I see that they are the same price (full tread, heat cycled) but don't know what the difference is.
I will be buying within the next month so I can start useing them in the middle of May.

SVT2000Contour, From information I have, the Victoracer might be the better choice for heavy cars like ours. The Ecsta 700 performs at different slip angles and behaves better on lighter cars. The Victoracers allow a little bit of slip and still maintain some grip. The Ecsta 700 once it starts slipping has no grip. This information came from people in Camaro's and Honda's who have driven on both tires. Check with Tirerack for the latest information. HTH

What about using some Hoosier R3S03 tires for OpenTrack events and/or club racing on road courses?
I will be getting some 16" racing rims to go along with some new R compound tires. And will only use them on the track.
Looking for comments.....

Depending on the length of the event, you may go through a set of Hoosiers each time. They have good grip, short life. HTH

Unless you flat spot them, Hoosiers are good for 6 to 10 heat cycles. Normally a heat cycle is considered one autocross event or one track session. Heavier cars and cars harder on tires (like FWD) may only get 3 to 5 heat cycles. A lot depends on driver style.

IF that is the case, then maybe I shouldnt go with them, because many of the track events I will be going to, each group of cars gets 3-5 sessions a day, with each session running 20-30 minutes.
It looks as though the VictoRacer may be the tire of choice then.

I avoid the Hoosiers, because what I've heard is that they are vulnerable to flat-spotting in the hands of ham-fisted newbies like me. I'll stick with the cheaper solutions, at least until there's a national championship on the line (as if...)
