Was ruffling through the pages of the latest SportsCar mag, and noticed a rule ammendment that I thought I would bring up. It concerns the engine swap rule, which previously allowed engines to be swapped assuming the make was the same. It now reads:

"Engine block must be a production unit manufactured and badged the same as the original standard or optional engine for that model..."

As it stands now, it appears the the 3.0 Liter swap is now no longer an option for SM. I had been eyeing this as a possibility in the coming years, as my 2.5 is pushing 100K, now. I don't know if anyone else was thinking about trying this, but the new rules pretty much make it explicit. No can do.

Regards,

The Mark

Then this is a perfectly legal swap.

The new wording is intended to define more precisely what the old rule meant. Further down in the bulletin it says "Swaps involving makes related only at a corporate level (e.g. Ford/Volvo [...]) are not recognized as equivalents." And further down: "the Eagle Talon, available originally with either a Mitsubishi or Chrysler engine, may use any motor from Chrysler or Mitsubishi." (My emphasis.)

This means the Contour could take any Ford engine, if you can make it fit.

Ok, I think I see your point. For some reason, i felt compelled to read it as if one could swap any motor that was an option into your car. (e.g. V-6 Camaro could upgrade to the SS motor, et al)

*breathes a sigh of relief*

Thanks for clearing that up

You can run a supercharger in SM.

Just remember the maximum displacement for forced induction is 3.0 liters on OHC engines in SM. Don't overbore your 3 liter block or you will be illegal.
